Title:  Manager of Internal Controls - NAT

DescriptionThe Manager of Internal Controls reports to the Assistant Controller of North American Tire (NAT) and oversees the department responsible for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) documentation, testing reporting and compliance of the segment. The Manager must identify and institutionalize best practices into NAT's SOX program and ensure all key internal controls/procedures (including SOX) are adequate to address the changing business risks of NAT. The Manager must also ensure proper resources are employed, develop/maintain a high performance culture within the department, ensure tone at the top messaging as to the importance of internal control is prevalent throughout the organization, and provide adequate training to individuals responsible for the operation of key controls. Participation on special projects and process/control improvement initiatives occurs on a regular basis.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • SAP experience preferred
  • CPA and/or CMA preferred
  • 6-10 years of specific experience with account reconciliations and internal control design and testing, including at least 3 to 5 years of specific experience with SOX compliance and testing and supervisory experience over multiple direct-reports
  • Good technical accounting and internal control skills required
  • Experience with the initial implementation of SOX in a business/division desired
  • In-depth internal control (SOX) skills and knowledge. Working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Experience with the initial implementation of SOX in a business/division desired.
  • Strong Micorsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Ability to view complex/conflicting data, identify problems and propose solutions/alternatives.
  • Strong communication skills, to include ability to listen and articulate the business case (deliver effective presentations).
  • Ability to create productive business environment for associates by providing opportunities to demonstrate/develop their skill sets.
  • Effectively utilize performance management to optimize associate contribution.
  • Competency with computer systems: database, spreadsheet, ERP-based financial system (SAP preferred) and internet.
  • Demonstrated results as a business team member (Finance Leader).
  • Ability to function in a team environment as a member and a leader.
Tasks
  • Manage NAT's outsourced SOX compliance department which is responsible for ensuring that NAT's internal control environment is properly designed, documented and tested in compliance with SOX regulations.
  • Timely communication and remediation of SOX issues and gaps, including impact assessment and creation of go-forward correction plans. Track and monitor status of open gaps and report trends to NAT Leadership.
  • Work with Internal Audit to identify, communicate and remediate any Internal Audit findings that result in internal control/SOX gaps.
  • Completion of special accounting/GAAP related projects at the request of the Assistant Controller and Controller of NAT.
  • Lead the SOX program to best in class status. This includes identifying and implementing global best practices, creating a program flexible to the changing business risks of NAT, instituting a high performance culture and identifying and correcting control weaknesses before gaps occur.
