We are looking for a Managing Editor to join our marketing team. The main objective of this position is to manage the content production of our daily email newsletter which goes out to nearly 3 million subscribers. One of our objectives is to create timely and relevant content.

If you relish being creative yet enjoy a good technical challenge, this may be a good opportunity for you. Not only will you get to develop incredibly fun content, but you’ll be working with our content management system and team to produce our daily newsletter. Our ideal candidate will have strong HTML knowledge, the ability to create/edit wikis and have social media experience.

In this position, we are seeking someone with a good grasp of content; who can write and develop ideas that are fresh, edgy, and relevant to our product in fast-paced environment. In addition, this person will manage the editorial calendar and post all submissions to our content management system, while juggling the pressures of producing a daily newsletter.

You will report to the Sr. Content Manager. You’ll also manage our freelance writers and work closely with the rest of the Content team and other departments to produce our daily newsletter. As a result, we are looking for a team player with top-notch communication skills.

Key Qualities:
  1. The ability to manage editorial scheduling of content
  2. Ability to interface with a variety of departments including Product Management, Technology, QA, and Marketing while meeting strict deadlines
  3. Familiarity with our product/content/voice and audience
  4. Works in a timely fashion to consistently hit deadlines
Responsibilities:
  • Monitor/edit contributors’ expected submissions (reviews, features, stories, blog posts, etc.)
  • Ensure stories on the editorial calendar are appropriately assigned
  • Manage routine communication with contributors
  • Keep a record of content contributor volunteers
  • Ensure contributors have a solid understanding of what they submit and when its due
  • Post all content in the CMS tool
  • Add appropriate formatting to features and other content (including hyperlinks, writing blurbs, teases, and using best headline practices for the Web)
  • Help create and manage content for our email newsletter
  • Track overall content budget for each issue and each contributor on an actual and projected basis
  • Maintain a listing of all content assigned, submitted, posted, etc.
  • Promptly make any edits or correct any errors
  • Edit for style, tone, voice, and our audience
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 7 years of work experience in a Web environment and newsletter production
  • Experience with older CMS systems, and WordPress
  • Familiarity with Web 1.0 environments
  • Strong HTML knowledge
  • Best headline practices
  • Knowledge of psychic terms, content, and a grasp of our audience
  • Experience writing for the Web and SEO knowledge
  • Social media experience
  • Blogging experience
  • Ability to deal strict deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and edit on the fly
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Web 2.0
  • Experience with Strongmail
  • Knowledge of Wikis or On Time
