Manufacturing/Controls Engineer I 

Johnson Controls is the world’s largest manufacturer and
recycler of conventional
vehicle batteries; producing 146 million batteries - one-third of
the industry's output - every year. We power every type of passenger vehicle,
heavy-duty and light commercial trucks, motorcycles, golf cars, lawn and garden
tractors, and marine applications.  Nearly every vehicle battery uses
materials that can be continually recycled, which makes vehicle batteries both
economical and sustainable.

We are currently seeking a Manufacturing/Controls Engineer I  for our  facility in St. Joseph, MO. 


Primary Purpose:


Under minimal supervision, responsible for managing capital
projects and improvements in plant processes and equipment.   Projects
include electro mechanical design, PLC program changes, mechanical and
electrical documentation, uptime improvements, and maintenance expense



Primary Duties:


  • Manages capital projects from Scope of Work (SOW) through
    electrical / mechanical design elements to projects installation and

  • Initiates and leads plant teams in the development of
    process improvements.

  • Provides technical support for plant operations including
    maintenance support and idea implementation from operators.

  • Monitors process, including new equipment and tools, to
    ensure performance to specifications.  Implements capital and
    non-capital projects.

  • Works with plant quality control and manufacturing
    personnel to ensure process and equipment is capable of producing product
    that meets quality and engineering standards.

  • Reviews new and modified specifications for proper content
    and schedules their introduction into the manufacturing system.

  • Identifies causes and develops strategies for eliminating
    re-occurring downtime.

  • Assists with assuring tools, equipment, and processes
    comply with OSHA and EPA standards


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or
    Manufacturing preferred.)

  • Minimum 1 year experience in an engineering role within a
    manufacturing environment. (Internship experience in Industry preferred)

  • Working knowledge of PLC programming and ladder logic
    is required.

  • Experience in Robotics programming, troubleshooting, and
    diagnostics preferred. (Fanuc / Denso preferred)

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Solidworks, Excel, Power-point, and
    other related programs.
