What You'll Do

 

John Deere Horicon Works is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer whose primary focus will be within Assembly Operations for Riding Lawn Equipment, but may also include involvement with Utility Vehicles.  Within this role, you will:

  • Participate on cross-functional teams for implementation of new product through EPDP (Enterprise Product Delivery Process). Use the Line Design process to develop assembly and machining methods for new product and/or revisions to current product.  Identify tools, equipment, and facility changes required and lead the installation of such to support product schedules.  Use electronic tools to plan and verify assembly and machining operations prior to implementation.  Establish the routings, incentive standards, and quality plans for new or revised assembly and machining operations.
  • Provide accurate documentation to production operators to support assembly and machining methods and product specifications.
  • Utilize JD-QPS (John Deere - Quality Production System) principles to support lean manufacturing of quality product.
  • Utilize Value Stream Mapping concepts for driving decisions toward improvements of the business.
  • Provide daily support to a specific assembly line or machining area regarding safety, quality, ergonomic, and tooling concerns.
  • Identify root cause of issues with current operations and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate on Continuous Improvement teams to identify and implement ideas to improve areas of safety, quality, delivery, and costs.
  • Investigate and implement new manufacturing processes or technology.
What It Takes
 
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering preferred) or related Technical degree coupled with 3 years experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role OR a minimum of 5 years equivalent work experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role if not accompanied with a degree.  Also required includes:
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing assembly processes.
  • Experience with Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines including operation, programming and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient with Industrial Engineering skills of work measurement and setting standards.
  • Proficiency in the application of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Good communication skills, with an ability to interact well with salaried and wage employees.

A strong candidate may also possess:

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office tools of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Project Management experience.
  • Experience with capital budgeting activities.
  • Experience with electronic tools such as Pro/E, VisView, or AutoCad for analyzing 3D models.
  • Experience with electronic tools for creating Sequence of Events with associated work instructions.
  • Cross-functional Engineering experience such as Product Design, Facilities, Tool Design, Maintenance, Quality, etc.
  • Experience with Process Capability or Statistical Analysis.
  • Experience in a union environment.
