The Plant Corrosion Technology unit is a unit in the Plant Materials (S3) subprogram. The unit designs and conducts corrosion testing to evaluate the mechanism for fleet component failures, to support manufacturing issues, as well as to qualify the use of new materials in Naval Nuclear applications. This unit also manages the operation of the Science Autoclave Facility (SAF). This uniqie corrosion test facility exists to perform state-of-the-art testing of naval nuclear materials to better understandfleet material performance, overseeing the performance of the tests, and evaluating and reporting of the results. Additional responsibilities will include the development of engineering and fundamental environmental degradation models. This individual will also oversee and interprete analytical characterization results of test specimens and fleet components (i.e., oxide film, microstructure, and SCC crack tip characterization studies, etc.)

Job Requirements:
A bachelors degree in Materials, Chemical, Nuclear, or Mechanical engineering (or related discipline) plus a minimum of 5 years related professional experience
OR
A masters degree in Materials, Chemical, Nuclear, or Mechanical engineering (or related discipline) plus a minimum of 2 years related professional experience
OR
A PhD in Materials, Chemical, Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering

Other Skills : Experience building and maintaining relational databases such as MS Access, Oracle, or equivalent. Experience designing and conducting corrosion and/or fracture mechanics tests. Experience interpreting the requirements of the Structural Design Basis SDB-63. Experience programming in the Labview computer software code. Experience working with materials analytical characterization methods and data. Experience that demonstrates a fundamental knowledge of corrosion processes and/or fracture mechanics.
