This is a direct-hire position and offers excellent benefits, growth potential, and a substantial company bonus.
Basic Purpose: To be key participant in the development of metal materials for military and commercial products using existing or new materials technology. Establish specifications for new materials. Develop new manufacturing processes or modify current processes as required to improve customer acceptance or to meet new market standards. Mange the scale-up of new materials processes from laboratory to Pilot Line. Assist in transfer of new products/processes to Operations.
Tasks:
- Conduct materials and process development for military and other commercial products.
- Characterize the structure and properties of the materials processed in the Pilot Line; analyze the results of the characterization. Insure that materials meet customer specifications and internal specs.
- Recognize processing problems and define workable solutions in response.
- Conduct creative, thorough, and technically correct research and explore the significance of the results.
- Work with R&D Product Engineers and other scientists to integrate advances in materials technology into new products.
- Assist in preparation of ISO documents.
- Communicate successfully the results of development efforts to appropriate audiences and users.
- Work as part of a cross-functional team to transfer new products/processes to Operations.
- Support R&D product development and testing as required.
- Assist in qualifying raw materials and vendors.
- Develop metrics for evaluating material quality and process control.
- Ensure that all work is conducted safely.
- Prepare research and other report (s).
- Prepares report (s) to external customers on progress or results.
This position requires:
- MS or higher degree in materials science or related technical discipline.
- 5 years minimum experience in materials process development and characterization.
- Strong background in SPC, Six Sigma or other quality programs..
- Excellent data analysis/problem solving abilities.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work well within team settings.
