Math Curriculum Specialist

 

The Math Curriculum Specialist will act as a curriculum expert for Kumon’s Math Program. The primary responsibilities for this position include evaluating student and instructor success, determining ways to increase the success rate by improving both the materials and instructional strategies, assisting in the production, proofing, and maintenance of the math materials, acting as project leader for targeted research projects (including both on-site observational research at Centers and statistical data analysis), assessing student performance with materials related to the Math Program, as well as supporting Field Staff, Instructors and Students with the math curriculum. 
 
In addition, this position will act as support for materials development in providing research results to the Global Math Team at the Kumon Institute of Education in Japan and, therefore, will have the opportunity to impact the development of Kumon math materials worldwide as a representative of the students in North America.
 

 
Job Responsibilities:             
 
  • Build expertise in all of the math materials, as well as all of the newly-revised materials provided to Kumon North America by the Global Math Team in Japan, through solving all math worksheets for the entire program and becoming fully knowledgeable of all peripheral materials as well as the contents, structure, philosophy, and implementation methods for the materials.
  • Research efficacy of the current and newly-revised Math Worksheets and review materials level by level as needed. In addition, propose rational for any appropriate changes to Global Math Team at the Kumon Institute of Education in Japan.
  • Assist with analysis of current and future revisions as requested by the Global Math Team in Japan.
  • Manage the reprint process for the materials. Proofread and approve proofs of the Math materials from Material Development Department (MDD) Production and from printers (i.e. Worksheets, Answer Books, Achievement Tests, Placement Tests, and other peripherals).
  • File reprints of company materials related to the Math Program. 
  • Participate in research by reviewing Kumon student information and through direct observation and direct communication with Kumon Instructors. Review recorded data and work with other Math Research Team
    Members to analyze the data. Assist with organizing and cataloging data, including reports, video clips, and all other research results.
  • Assist staff, instructors and/or students with any questions related to the Math Program materials (answering questions about solutions, the Formula Book, Placement and Achievement Tests, etc.)
  • Assist in research on educational trends in mathematics. 
     



Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics 
  • Knowledge of the Kumon Method and operations at a Kumon Center highly desired
