Mechanical Engineer - Federal Employment


The Mechanical Engineer position requires design and specification of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems including field investigation and interaction with clients. Selected candidate will be assigned multiple concurrent design projects. Project schedules will overlap and will be at various stages of design. Candidate must be able to multitask, have good communication skills and the ability to work in teams with coworkers and clients. Attend review meetings (some travel required) and interact with users, and utility providers to ensure design meets all local requirements, and expectations. Review mechanical and building codes, as well as UFCs to verify their incorporation into the design.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Design plans and specifications of mechanical systems for buildings and facilities including supply air systems, return air systems, radiant heating systems, geothermal systems, fire sprinklers, and plumbing systems. Prepare design calculations, reports and technical scope of work.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



Preferred experience:



  • Military and civil works projects for the Army Corps of Engineers

  • Design/build experience.

  • CADD (micro station preferred), BIM and computer skills.

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook.

Travel: Once or twice a month (trips are from 1 to 5 days)


Minimum Education and Experience



5 to 15 years experience must be in building design (HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler) as a consulting engineer preparing full design plans and specifications for new construction, building restoration and renovation projects.


Good understanding of sustainable design practices.

Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering (from an ABET Accredited University)

EIT license required


PE license required for higher grades


US Citizenship required


LEED AP preferred
