Position Title: Piping & Valve Specialist

Position Descriptions: The Piping and Valve Specialist fulfills a plant equipment technical specialist consulting position on the corporate research and engineering staff, and provides support to company refineries on a global or regional basis. This engineer provides in-depth technical leadership and support related specifically to piping and valves, with a focus on troubleshooting, asset improvement, technology selection, and standards development.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Analyze refinery piping and valve equipment performance and drive site asset improvement in safety, reliability, environmental performance, and equipment capability
- Support major capital projects and provide leadership in areas of design consulting, technical quality assurance, and start-up assistance
- Assist refineries in equipment specification and application of new technology
- Provide global or regional technical leadership in formal technical networks and work groups
- Develop and deliver technical training for plant engineering organizations
- Develop and maintain technical standard and guidelines
Background Requirements:
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME degree preferred)
- Extensive piping and valve engineering experience, preferable with an operating company in a refinery setting, or with a major engineering contractor (petrochemical industry)
- In-depth familiarity with petrochemical industry standards (ASME and API codes) associated with piping and valves
- Experience should encompass piping system design and specification as well as plant installation, maintenance, and stress analysis
- Experience in valve selection and maintenance
- Experience in application of Fitness for Service (FFS) methods
- Familiarity with materials selection, welding processes, and NDE methods
- Experience with piping flexibility software for stress analysis, and familiar with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
