Position Title: Mechanical Engineer - Pressure Equipment Generalist

Position Description: The Mechanical Engineer - Pressure Equipment Generalist fulfills a plant equipment technical specialist consulting position on the company's corporate research and engineering staff, and provides support to company refineries on a global or regional basis. This individual provides in-depth technical leadership and support related to all types of pressure equipment, with a focus on troubleshooting, asset improvement, technology selection, and standards development.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Analyze refinery pressure equipment performance and drive asset improvement in safety, reliability, environmental performance, and equipment capability
- Support major capital projects and provide leadership in areas of design consulting, technical quality assurance and start-up assistance
- Assist sites in equipment specification and application of new technology
- Provide global or regional technical leadership in formal technical networks and work groups
- Develop and deliver technical training for plant engineering organizations
- Develop and maintain technical standards and guidelines
Background Requirements:
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME degree preferred)
- Extensive pressure equipment engineering experience, preferably with an operating company in a refinery setting, major engineering contractor (petrochemical industry), or large fabrication shop
- In-depth familiarity with petrochemical industry standards associated with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valves, tanks
- Experience in pressure equipment should encompass specification and design as well as installation, maintenance, stress analysis, and troubleshooting
- Experience in Fitness for Service (FFS) methods
- Familiarity with materials selection, welding processes, and NDE methods
- Understanding of primary and secondary stresses and associated limits (e.g. ASME Section VIII Division 2, Part 5 Analysis Methods and Criteria)
