We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Design Engineering Manager that will have a key part of the functional design team within the R&D organization and will be responsible for ensuring design quality and on-time delivery.
This position is located in Melbourne, FL and will report to the Director of R&D. We are open to domestic and international candidates with the right credentials.
Requirements to be Successful:
- BS, MS or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, PE license or equivalent preferred
- 10+ years experience in mechanical design with increasing level of responsibility in product development
- 3+ years experience in engineering management with track record of successful project management
- Proficient using Solidworks and implementation of mechanical design documentation management
- Experience with medical devices and knowledge of FDA Quality System and Design Control desired
- Must possess a strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices, including:
o Plastic and sheet metal parts and assembly design
o Assembly processes including welding, adhesives, fasteners, molding, and finishing
o Actuation systems, precision rotary/linear motion design, servo/stepper drive systems, motion control
o Structural and stress analysis, FEA, and tolerance analysis
- Material Science background or working experience strongly desired
- Experience with lean product development and six sigma tools desired,
- Proficient in DFM, DFT, FMEA, and FA principles
- Experience in design for serviceability, modularity, usability, and aesthetics desired
- Exceptional communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational abilities

- Work well within a team environment and across multiple functions
- Ability to take initiative, and to meet deadlines under pressure
Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical design team as subject matter expert and functional team manager
- Lead, direct, review, and approve mechanical product design and product changes
- Ensure design conformance with engineering design guidelines and functional product requirements.
- Assist designers in developing design concepts and detailed design execution using Solidworks
- Support mechanical design requirements from the electrical engineering group
- Guide creation of assembly process plans, troubleshooting guides in support of production engineering
- Lead reliability analysis of mechanical sub systems and guide field tech support as needed
- Lead new technology assessments, cost reduction, and vendor interaction during new product introduction
- Coordinate and direct mechanical sub-projects, including planning, prototyping, and integration
