Mechanical Services Technical Field Advisor

ALSTOM Power Inc., a global leader and provider of power generation, products and services, is seeking a Mechanical Services Technical Field Advisor (TFA) for ALSTOM Generators or Gas turbines. This remote based position is responsible in general for mechanical integrity and operation of ALSTOM units.. This is accomplished through inspections, planned maintenance/overhauls, and customer assistance while ensuring the highest level of quality and customer satisfaction. Level placement is based on a hires' qualifications and performance ability. Experience with ALSTOM turbines or generators, is required for non entry level positions.
 
Minimum (Entry Level) Essential Functions
  • Provide technical assistance on the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of complex turbine components.

  • Demonstrate technical leadership in dealing with customers, subordinates, peers, superiors and all Alstom entities. This could include individual direct customer communication.

  • Disassemble and assemble turbine/generator and associated equipment based upon a pre-determined work scope, procedure, instructions, Inspection and Test Plan, Shift Planner or contract.

  • Responsible for personal quality control.

  • Maintain an individual work record and notebook.

  • Use and supervise the use of precision measuring hand tools, hydraulic bolt stretchers, and other industrial tooling and equipment

  • Ensure 100% conformance to any directive issued (either verbal or written) by immediate supervisor in relationship to any activities that are delegated.

  • Be involved in direct supervision of craft labor.

  • Prepare detailed reports based upon findings and actions taken as and when required.

  • Actively participate in the performance development process along with direct supervision and Line management.

  • Performs work with highest quality possible to ensure safe operation of equipment.

  • Frequent Travel is required

 
 


Education
  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 3-4 Year Mechanical Apprenticeship, Millwright certification or equivalent 

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in the Power Industry servicing turbines and/or generators.

  • Experience with ALSTOM turbines and generators, is a plus.

  • Familiarity with technical drawings relating to turbine and/or generator components required

  • Knowledge in design, function and operation of gas/steam turbine and/or generators

  • Working knowledge of personal computers and the Microsoft operating system and Office® (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).

  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and Lotus Notes a plus

  • Strong organization and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Good time management skills

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • A self-starter who can operate with minimal instruction.

  • Must be in possession of a valid passport.

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record

  • Ability to work non-standard schedules at any location with possible varying environmental conditions required

  • Ability to manage company and personal expenses as required.

  • Ability to travel to assignments domestically and internationally with short notice for extended periods required (Areas include USA, Canada, Mexico, Switzerland, South America, Asia and the UK)

  • Ability to manage and maintain electronic communication with office while home or on assignment is required

  • Ability to pass a pre-hire background check, drug screening and physical exam required

  • Ability to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential, (TWIC™).

  • Ability to work in the US without any further action from an employer required

  • Ability to travel up to 100% is required
