Currently, we are looking for a Medical Coder for a contract to hire position with one of our clients in Silver Spring, MD.
Medical Coder:
- Reviewing and verifying component parts of medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy of Diagnosis, operations, and special therapeutic procedures that must conform to Health Care Financing Administration and Department of Defense Coding Guidelines.
- Identifying the correct principal diagnosis and principal procedure based on physician’s attestation record documentation and established sequencing rules and guidelines; query physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
- Analyzing medical records for consistency and completeness for coding purposes using established criteria and regulations.
- Abstracts pertinent information from patient records; assigns ICD-9-CM, CPT or HCPCS codes, creating APC or DRG group assignments.
- Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
- Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) and adheres to official coding guidelines.
Requirements:
The candidate must have coding experience within the last five years and possess a RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, or CCS certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or a CPC or CPC-H certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Extensive knowledge of the Official ICD-9-CM, CPT and HCPCS Coding Guidelines for Coding and Reporting; knowledge of a broad range of references such as the AMA CPT Assistant, AHA Coding Clinic, and NCCI edits.
