Description:


Responsible for managing inpatient medical records, some outpatient volume. The Coordinator will analyze the contents of the medical record to ensure accuracy and completeness.


Assure accurate & complete assignment of codes, modifiers & case mix grouping (APC or DRG) that are supported by medical record documentation for inpatient and/or outpatient surgery records. Will code and assign DRG's to inpatient records. Professional coding a plus.


Candidate is responsible for all release of information duties and HIPAA tracking.


Candidate is responsible for all state and departmental regulatory reporting (QNET etc.) T


Coordinator often times has direct contact with other departments as well as physician offices; therefore, this position requires a candidate whom demonstrates a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and is professional in both appearance and approach.


The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the hospital's medical records are compliant with all federal and state mandates.


Candidate must be able to handle potentially stressful situations and handle multiple tasks at one time. He/she must be a positive role model for other staff members and patients by working with them to promote teamwork and cooperation.


Candidate must be able to accept constructive criticism and integrate suggestions in effective ways.


Requirements:


Must have RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS certification


Minimum 5-7 years recent coding experience in acute hospital setting. This experience must cover ICD-9-CM, CPT, APC and DRG reimbursement knowledge.


Must have mastery skill in Microcomputer skill (Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Microsoft word) Must have working knowledge of medical terminology anatomy and physiology.

Knowledge in JCAHO standards and CMS requirements of medical records documentation, coding and billing.
