Medical Technologist - Generalist

 

SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for analytical testing in the General Core lab in Orlando where licensed by AHCA with emphasis in Chemistry and QA for Clinical Pathology Laboratories Southeast. This position reports to the Laboratory Manager.

 

 

 

Main Responsibilities:

  

  1. Performs testing  and quality control, interprets results accurately, and is responsible for communicating  results and  critical value reporting  following the established standard operating policies and procedures.

2.      Quality Assurance to include Chemistry Monthly QC, CAP Surveys and participate in Monthly QA meetings

3.      Operates and perform maintenance, troubleshooting, linearity studies and other duties as assigned or required related to test equipment.

 

General Duties Includes:       

  

  1. Initiates order supply requests and follow-up for reagents, controls, and supplies needed in their specific areas with Manager’s approval. Maintains and reports on inventory as required.

2.      Responsible for initiating notification process for critical laboratory results and notifying Lab Manager and/or Medical Director for unusual cases.

3.      Performs a variety of standardized procedures both automated and manual, using established standards and controls to ensure accurate data and maintains these records systematically.

4.      Understands the principles of and competently performs a variety of techniques, including spectrophotometer, microscopy, and immunology, hematology, microbiology, serology, and molecular diagnostics departments as applicable

5.      Performs duties independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records and files all data obtained

6.      Must participate in learning activities and maintain technical proficiency and competency.

7.      Must assist team in training other employees as needed.

8.      Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Must be licensed in the state of Florida as Medical Technologist in the areas in the appropriate testing disciplines (ie.e Hematology, Chemistry, Immunology, Molecular, and/or Microbiology. In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform and understand each essential duty.  The job also requires basic computer knowledge to include Microsoft, Excel and Outlooks.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:   Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or equivalent education.  Minimum five years of lab experience in chemistry and/or general lab

 

REASONING ABILITY:  This position will require the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables and situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The position involves standing, sitting, reading, handling of specimens, moderate lifting (up to approximately 50 pounds), and bending.
