Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE -
The Microsrategy Architect is responsible for the design, implementation and lifecycle management of Microstrategy based reporting and analytics solutions. The Architect is responsible for identifying and implementing technology and application solution designs and
delivering sustainable, cost effective business applications based on industry and business research.
This position is also responsible for implementation and oversight of sustaining technology governance
processes and associated teaching and mentoring of Business and IT Associates in proper use of the
technology and application base.
Daily responsibilities include designing and developing robust, user friendly applications, reports and dashboards using BI tools like Microstrategy and SAS. Develop, maintain and communicate Microstrategy best practices and standards.
Need to have deep end to end understanding of the BI solution stack including ETL, warehouse and BI.
Translate business requirements using complex methods and models to determine appropriate system
solutions.
Provide input into annual budget planning for technology migrations and project cost estimation.
Research, identify, test, certify, and select technology products required for solution delivery.
Establish and implement technology migration strategies for Microstrategy.
Lead technology review meetings and ensure appropriate governance processes are followed.
Strong decision making abilities.
Ability to lead and mentor others. Strong persuasion and influencing abilities to get things done and succeed in a matrixed environment.
Needs to stay informed on emerging technologies.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Lead design, development, and deployment of technical and application solutions to meet business requirements that are cost effective and sustainable. Deliver conceptual, logical, and physical solution specifications.

Translate business requirements using complex methods and models to determine appropriate system solutions.

Provide input into annual budget planning for technology migrations and project cost estimation.

Research, identify, test, certify, and select technology products required for solution delivery.

Establish and implement technology migration strategies for a specific application or architecture within an IT portfolio.

Lead technology review meetings and ensure appropriate governance processes are followed.

NATURE AND SCOPE -
Typically reports to Senior Architect, Senior Manager, or Director

No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).

EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
BS/BA in IT or related field or equivalent experience.

10+ years of related experience.

8+ Years of Information Technology experience.

5+ years experience with developing applications, reports and dashboards using Microstrategy is required.

Deep, hands on experience with Microstrategy SDK programming is required.

Microstrategy certification and familiarity with version 9 is a strong plus.

5+ years experience working with data warehouses is required. Strong SQL skills are required.

Experience with any of the following technologies would be considered a plus :
SQL Server Reporting Services, Proclarity, SQL Server Analysis Services 2005/2008, SQL Server Integration Services, MDX, Adobe Flex, BI for mobile devices and Java web services on Apache/Tomcat.

Excellent written, verbal, and documentation skills required. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with the ability to appropriately prioritize tasks as needed.

Comprehensive understanding of systems, applications, and/or networks so that practical solutions can be
provided that factor system performance, usability, quality, cross system interdependencies,
scalability, and overall cost to develop and maintain.

Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

MS degree.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Expert technical proficiency in one or more of the following: Retail applications, Windows platform, UNIX platforms, MVS COBOL, JAVA, J2EE, Relational Databases, Websphere Application Server, Websphere Commerce, Websphere MQ, Networking (Voice, LAN, WAN), SAP, Siebel, Peoplesoft.

Comprehensive understanding of systems, applications, and/or networks so that practical solutions can be provided that factor system performance, usability, quality, cross-system interdependencies, scalability, and overall cost to develop and maintain.
