This is a Mid Level position as far as expertise and depth and breadth of experience. The salary is reflective of that and the salary that is budgeted for this position is up to $80,000/year.
Database Administrator
Position Summary
The Database Administrator (DBA) is part of a team responsible for maintaining the availability and performance of our Microsoft SQL Server database servers.
Requirements
The individual in this position will be working with a team of developers, DBAs, designers, and testers. Due to the nature of this position, the applicant will need the ability to work from home or during off-hours as necessary. Candidates must have:
· A comprehensive understanding of database structures, database administration, and query optimization.
· At least three years experience administrating Microsoft SQL Server, with at least two of those years spent with SQL Server 2005 or 2008.
· Excellent SQL skills, with the ability to generate complex SQL queries from an entity-relationship diagram.
· Excellent query tuning skills.
· The ability to troubleshoot critical performance problems in a production database system during a crisis.
· An extremely detail-oriented work ethic.
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand user requests and translate them into technical requirements.
· High-speed Internet access at home and a personal computer.
In addition, the ideal candidate will have:
· Recently been a successful SQL Server 2008 DBA maintaining databases with hundreds of tables, hundreds of transactions per second, and/or thousands of simultaneous users
Required for the interview:

Responsibilities
- Assists developers with the creation and maintenance of robust, scalable database code.
- Maintains and enforces SQL standards and guidelines, and answers technical and procedural questions from team members.
- Maintains database performance by developing tuning methodologies and monitoring performance.
- Maintains data integrity by establishing standards and auditing.
- Manages database size and scalability.
- Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing database performance and trends.
- Monitors and manages database maintenance tasks (e.g. backups, restorations, index sizes, log sizes, etc.).
- Responds to critical database-related problems after hours and on weekends.
- Assists with the planning, testing, and implementation of database hardware and software upgrades (service packs, SAN maintenance, major version upgrades, etc.).
- Maintains technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
- Accomplishes department and organization mission by completing related tasks as needed.
