Description for the Mortgage Underwriter role
Mortgage Underwriters are responsible for underwriting residential mortgage loans to ensure compliance with bank, FHA/VA, and secondary market standards. It is the responsibility of the Mortgage Underwriter to communicate with processors, originators, and other internal and external clients. The Mortgage Underwriter must meet performance standards and goals established by the bank. The Mortgage Underwriter will be responsible for all loan types. Underwriting examples include conventional loans, FHA and VA loans, bond/housing authority, and non-conforming loans.
Qualifications for the Mortgage Underwriter role
Candidates for the role of Mortgage Underwriter role will possess four or more years of mortgage loan underwriting experience and will be responsible for underwriting mortgage loans of complex nature including conventional, FHA and VA, bond/housing authority, and non-conforming loans. Mortgage Underwriters may be required to assist in the training of less experienced underwriters and residential origination staff members.
