Description:
The successful candidate will function as a member of the GIS Services Team and be an integral part of the Cadastral GIS mapping process. Primary tasks under the guidance of senior team members are to travel to remote locations alone or in teams and research ownership documents for accuracy and completeness, map the legal land descriptions within to create an accurate cadastral GIS database. During times when cadastral research and/or mapping is not required, general GIS production tasks may be required, including customer support via the GIS helpdesk.

Qualifications:
Work Experience
General - 4+ years GIS experience with a variety of ESRI products and the ability to multi-task with varying priorities. Excellent organizational and customer-service skills.
Specialized - 2+ years of solid, continuous experience using ArcGIS Desktop v9.2 or above in a cadastral mapping environment. Thorough understanding of complex legal land descriptions and the ability to identify and perform the necessary research required to accurately depict tract and encumbrance ownership and/or ensure an accurate chain of title for cadastral GIS applications. Also, experience creating publishing-quality cartographic / analysis products using ESRI software tools in combination with other finishing software applications (candidates should be prepared to submit portfolio examples of cartographic work).
Responsible for the construction, maintenance, and management of the Parcel land fabric and geodetic survey control layers managed in the GIS geodatabase. Creates and maintains precise geographic data base and intelligent graphics data bases. Under general supervision, performs highly complex work in precise map drafting, survey and boundary analysis, complex calculations in surface and mineral land management projects. Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to the following: Accepts duty assignments in remote U.S. locations; coordinates cadastral GIS activities which typically cross departmental or divisional lines. Provides technical direction in the production, maintenance, and checking of cadastral, subdivision, addressing, plat book index, right-of-way / encumbrance and other types of maps.
Assists in developing new and improved techniques for performing the work and trains subordinates in their use of GIS tools, functions and technology to manage land base data. Performs a variety of highly complex cadastral and survey analysis work which involves coordination with other public agencies. Incumbents of this position may act in a lead capacity over subordinate GIS Analyst, IT technical mapping staff on a project basis or review the work of such staff for technical accuracy. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.
