Plans, directs, implements and monitors educational programs for students enrolled within the program.

Program Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the program.
  • Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
  • Teaches the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog and relates the instruction to careers and employer expectations.
  • Implements evaluation for outcomes assessment, and achieves established results while maintaining college standards of student satisfaction.
  • May travel to relevant medical facilities, community venues, as required, in support of curricular activities.
  • Accurately maintains attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy, submits class roster daily, maintains a separate record of attendance and grades that is clearly labeled and turned in at the end of the term. Calls all students who are absent and submits written reports of pertinent information to the Program Director.
  • Attends faculty meetings, in-service meetings, graduation and other college events as required by the College.
  • Responsible for organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the program
  • Works in conjunction with the Program Director to assess and record student paperwork related to clinical experiences.
  • Works in conjunction with the Externship Administrator and the Program Director to coordinate clinical portion of program
  • Conducts preceptor duties as needed
  • Assists Program Director and Externship Coordinator with Hospital Orientations as needed
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs.
  • Possess teaching and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to teach and control the behavior of students.
  • Knowledge of academic and/or vocational education curricula.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current education methodologies and techniques.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • MSN required, supplemented by a minimum of 3-5 years nursing experience.
  • Meet Board of Nursing requirements for faculty, including current RN license
  • Demonstrated ability as a nursing instructor in didactic, lab and clinical
  • Experience in assessment of student learning outcomes and remediation strategies required.
  • Must have a solid knowledge base of internal HESI or other NCLEX prep material.
  • Ability to identify trends in specific weak areas of nursing course content to successfully operationalize NCLEX-RN and/or NCLEX-PN reviews
  • Demonstrated current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of the NCLEX-PN examinations as well as currency in knowledge in the field to provide academic support.
  • Where applicable, state or accreditation regulations may require a certain number of year’s occupational experience.
