Position Description:
JOB SUMMARY
Under general or direct supervision, assures the capacity and design of Suddenlink Communications network will support the level of service expected of our telephony and/or video and/or data customers.
ILLUSTRATIVE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Capacity Management including planning and control of network components and facilities to ensure bandwidth and the ability to handle peak usage for all agencies by providing adequate network resources. Parameters will be set which define acceptable capacity levels. Reports will be analyzed and the results compared to the control limits. Recommendations (if any) will be made.
• Performance Monitoring including controlling parameters will be set and tools utilized to monitor performance relative to these parameters..
• Responsible for monitoring the collection of operational measurement data from all network elements assigned to include verification of data received to assure valid, error-free, and complete data.
• Responsible for maintaining the NOC systems, such as the network management platforms, firewall security, RAS system, and others as required. Other responsibilities are to integrate agency and municipality LANs into the WAN and perform pre-service tests and diagnostics prior to cutovers.
Responsible for processing operational measurement data from assigned network elements to generate appropriate reports indicating the current load vs. capacity of those elements.
• Responsible for projecting network load capacity or other operating norms to identify future operational problems.
• Analyze all practical solutions to eliminate identified network problems and provide report on best solution.
• Assist in the development of budgets to assure all identified network problems are addressed by budgeted capital.
• Provides input regarding the evaluation, selection and procurement of fiber optic transmission and other network equipment.
• Provides on-going technical support and training for Suddenlink employees working with telecommunications equipment.

• Ability to use reasoning to troubleshoot and solve technical problems.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• Requires a BSEE, BS Mathematics, or equivalent degree preferred with 2 to 3 years experience in relevant technical skills or the equivalent in education and experience.
• Cisco Network Devices - CCNP or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated experience with Frame-Relay, ATM, Ethernet Token Ring, TCP/IP, SNA, Inter-Switch Trunking, Encryption and Data Integrity (i.e., DES, 3DES, ESP, VPN)
• Ability to configure Cisco PIX Firewalls and Checkpoint Firewalls Ability to administer Sun Solaris Familiar with OSPF and BGP Must have current knowledge of statistical analysis and mathematical trending.
• Must have the following Cisco Catalyst 6500 design, deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting. General firewalls, (checkpoint firewalls ideal), OSPF and Policy Based routing, VPN Concentrators, PIX and ASA firewalls.
Must have current knowledge of technology, standards, and specifications related to transmission systems, switching, digital loop carrier and related telecommunications systems.
• Requires strong hands-on technical knowledge of telephony operations, products, and services.
• Must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must be proficient in use of standard computer hardware and software systems such as spreadsheets, word-processing, database, and CAD programs.
