COMMISSION SALES TO NATIONAL ACCOUNTS

 

Top Knobs is North America's #1 manufacturer of kitchen cabinet knobs and decorative hardware for the kitchen and bath.  We sell through 5000+ dealers throughout North America.  Top Knobs is headquartered in Hillsborough New Jersey, halfway between Newark NJ and Trenton NJ (the nice rolling countryside approximately 10 miles north of Princeton NJ). 

 

This is a new position for the company, working with national accounts, architects, dealer showrooms, and our sales staff.  Identify projects for our kitchen and bath hardware, get us specified, work with a dealer to get us quoted (or we may quote direct in some circumstances) and get the order closed.   An example would be learning that an Aloft Hotel is being built at the Denver airport, getting in touch with the architect to get us specified, working with a local dealer to bid the job, and getting it closed.  The job is telephone-based at this time.  No travel required. 

 

Compensation is commission only, plus a small stipend for the first couple months.  The income potential is significant, but this position was not in the 2009 budget, so it needs to pay for itself through increased sales.  Benefits after 90 days.  Target compensation is $80K+, commission only.  This will require building the business.  We currently do minimal business in National Accounts and as the market leader for professionally installed decorative hardware, we have a significant growth opportunity in National Accounts

 

Due to the nature of this job, it could be possible to work from home a couple days a week after a training period, although we would prefer to have you in the office.

JOB DESCRIPTION   Sales Manager – National Accounts

 

Department:  Sales

Reports To:     VP Sales & Marketing

Type:               Exempt, commission-only, full-time, 40 hours per week, no direct reports yet

Location:        Hillsborough office (some work-from-home possible, minimal travel)

 

 

Desired Qualifications

§  College degree, outside sales experience, national account sales experience, telephone sales experience, experience in construction, interior design, remodeling, etc. would be a great plus

§  Ability to properly compose correspondence with customers, create and use Excel spread sheets

§  Strong prospecting skills, customer qualification skills, closing skills over the telephone

§  Outstanding people skills with ability to quickly build rapport by phone and get commitments from prospects

§  Outstanding organizational skills and time management skills, working with minimal supervision

 

Job Responsibilities

1.       Build a relationship with our reps, stocking distributors, decorative hardware dealers and large kitchen dealers to contact you when they have a 250+ piece project opportunity.

2.       Gain an understanding of competitor pricing on larger quotes, how aggressive they have been and are likely to be, and work internally and externally to position our quote to win.

3.       Coordinate internally our quote on 250+ piece orders, our quantities available, timeline to bring in stock as needed, and follow up on the quote to close the business.

4.       Contact by phone prospective national accounts, key accounts, large builders, and OEM accounts to get our products specified and sold for their projects and product lines, either directly or through dealers when necessary.

5.       Work by phone with our current national accounts, key accounts, large builders, and OEM accounts to grow their business with us.

6.       Outreach to architects and independent designers to encourage them to specify Top Knobs for their projects, help them with specs and samples, and follow-though to get our dealers or us to bid on the specified projects.

7.       Specifically identify and follow up on opportunities to get our Aspen product line specified on projects.

8.       To the extent possible, focus on projects nearing completion and gain a specification waiver for our products so that our less-expensive products can be substituted for more expensive products, should the project budget tighten.

9.       Be aware of any other issues, complaints, and opportunities that prospects or customers bring up, and work with company staff to resolve.

10.   Enter notes into the company software on prospects and customers, maintain your own document for tracking projects you are involved with, and document closed sales that you were involved in specifying, facilitating, and/or closing.

11.   Summarize your progress and findings in a weekly face-to-face meeting with sales management.

12.   Other duties as assigned
