POSITION DESCRIPTION: Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Include:
Responsible to the St Louis Network Engineering Branch Chief under the Transport Engineering Organization on the IT/IS Contract for the Government Customer.  This position would serve as a Network Engineer responsible for engineering the Customer’s Enterprise Infrastructure Network at the locations for which St. Louis Transport Engineering is responsible.

 

Responsibilities Include: Providing Engineering support for requirements in work under Transport Engineering.  Provide network engineering and maintenance, networking upgrade solutions and design, and limited operations support.  Provide solutions for Customer network requirements by providing Technical Assessments, Rough Order of Magnitudes (ROMs), Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Engineering Orders (EOs) for either Base Requirements, Directed Implementation Requirements (DI CLIN), or Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).  Participate in the maintenance of network configuration documentation, documentation of maintenance and design, as well as standard operating procedures (SOPs) that pertain to network engineering.  Participate in customer, contract, and vendor meetings as required. Participate in designing, engineering, documenting, and coordinating recommended changes to system architectures to accommodate technology upgrades and performance problems/issues. Coordinate with Government Clients pertaining to the status of Change Requests (CRs) being engineered by the Transport Engineering group.  Support of network environments includes management of network system resources, network design and installation, problem analysis; network troubleshooting and network maintenance.  

 

Duties and qualifications, identifying both essential and marginal duties:

The applicant should have a working knowledge of the Customer's network infrastructure. Hands-on experience with routers, bridges, switches, storage area networks, network security, and network management in a UNIX and Windows environment is required.  A qualified candidate should have at least 5+ years of hands-on Cisco and Marconi multilayer switch and router configuration and troubleshooting.   Knowledge and/or experience with Encryption Devices and Juniper Networks Routers and Security hardware is highly desired.  The applicant must have at least 5+ years of experience in the design, implementation, support, and management of complex network solutions. They must have some experience that encompasses network management and support, integration services, and security audit and design. They must have experience in installing, testing, debugging and troubleshooting networks with a variety of network peripherals to include routers, switches, and fiber cabling on TCP/IP networks. Technical experience should include network design and engineering, and TCP/IP network design, routing protocols, OSI model, SNMP, RMON, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP); hands-on Cisco and Marconi switches and Cisco, Juniper router configuration and troubleshooting.

Knowledge and/or experience with test equipment necessary to perform installation and monitoring functions, including Network General Sniffers and/or Wireshark.  Experience with Network Management tools such as Remedy, HP Openview, BMC, and Concord E-Health are a plus.

 

Education, Skill, and Experience Requirements:

·       Bachelor’s degree and 5 – 8 years of experience, or equivalent work experience

·       Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology desired

·       Technical experience should include network design and engineering, and TCP/IP network design, routing protocols, OSI model, SNMP, RMON, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP); hands-on Cisco router configuration and troubleshooting.

·       Desirable Certifications:  CCNA, CCNP, Marconi, CISSP, SEC+,  JNCIA,  JNCIS,

·       Knowledge of Cisco, Marconi, Juniper, Type 1 Encryption, and Foundry products desired (in order of importance).

·       Strong oral and written communications skills.

·       Knowledge of the Government Customer's infrastructure is strongly desired.

·       Experience Desired: 5 years in Network Engineering, Operations and Maintenance

* Upon hire, employee has 6 months to obtain primary certification and is required to maintain certifications while functioning in this position.

 

Security+ certification is assigned for the IAT Level II category.  This can be modified to SSCP with agreement between the employee and their manager.  Please notify training.admin@njvc.com and IA-Manager@njvc.com of any changes.

 

If a candidate has the following security certifications (that meet DOD 8570 criteria for IAT Level II), no additional security certification training is required for this position: GSEC, Security+, SCNP, SSCP, CISA, CISSP, GSE, and SCNA.
