About the Job



Manufacturing company has an immediate need for an energetic and hands on Cost Accountant who is knowledgeable about variance analysis who is driven to produce accurate, timely and explainable cost reporting and the ultimate plant operations team player.


 


The Cost Accountant candidate will provide financial decision making information by collecting, analyzing, and reporting cost data.


Candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day Cost Accounting function for the Company which includes but is not limited to: establishment of, review of, and update of standards (direct material, direct labor, and the establishment and deployment of internal controls and processes to ensure data integrity and consistency throughout the organization.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Analyze and forecast monthly completed order variances.
  • Analyze manufacturing variance accounts each month and prepare reports explaining such variances
  • Determines cost of operations by establishing standard costs; collecting operational data.
  • Guides cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures; providing trends and forecasts; explaining processes and techniques; recommending actions.  Performs extensive Job order vs. Actual cost analysis
  • Recommends actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; studying proposed changes in methods and materials.
  • Works with Sales team to ensure the Company’s quoting process takes into account the appropriate costs for the product being quoted.
  • Ensure BOM & routing accuracy working with the shop Operations team.
  • Closely work with Operations to get down to the root causes of the major variances  and assist in the development of corrective actions and countermeasures to eliminate the variances on a go forward basis.
  • Integral member of the  team responsible for establishment of standards (direct material, direct labor, variable & fixed overhead).
  • Financial Analysis of the plant operation
  • Improve WIP calculations and improve corresponding processes
  • Perform financial analysis of bills of materials, overheads costs, inventory evaluations, raw material costs, and labor costs.

  • Prepare monthly cost of sales data for inclusion in the company's financial statements.
  • Physical Inventory counts and/or reconciliations
  • Develop and maintain Standard Costs for all manufactured  items.
  • Analyze work orders, raw materials, and package purchase price variances on a monthly basis
  • Assist in the creation of relative company policy and procedure documentation
  • Assist with month end close and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
  • 5-7 years work experience in a manufacturing setting, must have at least 5 years experience as a cost accountant in a production environment.
  • Must be proficient in cost accounting and financial/cost analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • A critical element to this role will be the ability to clearly communicate and explain variances to all management groups.
  • Experience with all MS Office and ERP software is required.
  • Ability to set priorities and perform a variety of work assignments that are complex and broad in nature
  • Willing to get down on the shop floor to come up with solutions to production variance problems
  • Needs to be self a starter and results oriented in a remote location with minimal supervision.
