Network Engineer

Job Purpose
 
The Network Engineer will be responsible for the architecture and support of LAN and WAN connections at a highly available, enterprise level.  The successful candidate will be a member of a focused, dedicated, advanced Network Services team and must be willing and capable of taking on challenging assignments as needed. This job requires the high level administration of the company's enterprise network. This role will require routing, switching, datacenter design and deployment. This position entails a mix of project work and problem troubleshooting. 
 
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Routing, switching, and related networking equipment, including architecture, implementation and troubleshooting.

  • Architect and maintain solutions for inter-office data communications, including LAN, WAN, and wireless access.

  • Architecture, implementation, and management of VPN technologies for remote user access and for site-to-site   connectivity.

  • Network security.

  • Some after hours and weekend work will be required including participation in the department on-call rotation.


Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • Successful completion of an analytical aptitude exam.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in an efficient manner.

  • Ability to think quickly and adapt to new and challenging environments.

  • Ability to work closely with other departments and collaborate with other IT staff.

  • Ability to analyze and quickly resolve faults.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Cisco Switches, Cisco Routers, Checkpoint Firewalls, Cisco Wireless, Alteon.

  • Experience with Network Management systems such as SolarWinds or What'sUp.

  • Network and Systems Administration tools experience (Snoop, Ethereal, TCPdump, MRTG, Nessus).

  • Hands-on experience in some of the following areas: IP QOS, VoIP, SSL VPN, Wireless, IPS, NAC, and Internet Proxy.

  • In-depth knowledge in LAN switch technology (including Spanning tree, VTP domain management, HSRP).

  • Provide technical support to end users with varying levels of IT knowledge.

Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, or related discipline and/or equivalent experience.

  • At least 5 years of technical experience in a large enterprise network environment.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining LANs including knowledge TCP/IP.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining WANs utilizing BGP, OSPF, RIP, EIGRP.
