Scope of Responsibility:

Analyzing, designing, developing, testing, and deploying network components for IP and Optical Networks including but not limited to: Gather Requirements for the product and services to be engineered, collect and analyze network & system performance, draft and finalize design documentation for products and services, evaluate new technologies and products for current and new designs, develop and implement policies and procedures related to network hardware and software, configuration, support, security, and backup, document product specifications as related to the network environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Document product specifications as related to the network environment

Develop solution with vendors in the lab, writing concept review, requirements and functional specification documentation

Perform tests to evaluate various network design, concepts, performance and features of network devices in the lab for integration into a standard network platform

Install and test software upgrades for deployed hardware

Troubleshoot and resolve complex network problems to ensure minimal disruption of critical applications once escalated by field operations

Review, provide feedback, and communicate network standards and all relevant support documentation (Design, Specifications, etc.)

Analyze the probable flow of traffic and design the network to cope adequately

Ensure that the system’s software optimally routes each call and that different pieces of equipment – such as modems, telephones, computers, routers and printers – are compatible with the network

Analyze faults and problems that arise, and alter the network design to meet new requirements

Consider security systems that may be required.

This individual will provide third level technical support to other maintenance groups supporting a large customer community. This individual will be responsible for proficient use of diagnostic tools for both proactive and reactive problem handling.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

Five years experience in network systems support and installation, including server hardware and network operating systems software.

Five years experience in network infrastructure support and installation.

Three years experience using networking and systems diagnostic tools.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/MIS or equivalent certification from an accredited technical training school or equivalent (4 years) experience in general MIS/computer support.
