Network Engineer/Systems Support Analyst

Description

The Network Engineer/System’s Support Analyst role is to install, administer, and optimize company servers and related components to achieve high performance by tuning the servers as necessary. This includes configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. In addition, provide a point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance within the organization’s desktop computing, video conferencing, and media graphics environment. This includes designing, building, and implementing multimedia pages, graphics, and integrating these with back end applications and company Web sites/intranet.

 

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

·         Perform file system configuration and management. Plan and implement server maintenance, fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.

·         Develop strategies for client/server implementations; architect the infrastructure required to support those strategies.

·         Act as project lead in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed.

·         Lead, coordinate and participate in key process improvements as they relate to the client/server environment.

·         Coordinate and collaborate with network manager, application manager, to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demands.

·         Identify, recommend, and prioritize new media features and applications in conjunction with marketing department managers.

 

Acquisition & Deployment

·         Conduct research on server hardware, software, and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts.

·         Perform cost-benefit analyses of proposed multimedia implementations.

 

Operational Management

·         Monitor and analyze network performance across the organization’s LANs, WANs, and wireless deployment.

·         Serve as cornerstone for escalating server issues; provide timely response to customer escalations.

·         Perform file system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery procedures.

·         Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.

·         Manage enterprise directory services (AD), DHCP, DNS, and intrusion detection systems.

·         Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports.

·         Define and implement strategies for integrating disparate operating environments.

·         Recommend and execute modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.

·         Lead, coordinate video teleconference sessions, which include conference audio\video preparation, coordinate schedules among multiple bridges, and maintain all audio\video equipment in proper working order.

·         Provide graphic video and/or animation support for corporate products, intranets, and marketing material.

·         Lead editor for digital pictures, audio, video, and graphics for production and deployment efforts.

·         Conduct research on network and PC products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

·         Provide general support for smartphone phone, blackberry devices, and tablet computing.

·         Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.

·         Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

 

Formal Education & Certification

·         Degree in the field of computer science or related discipline and/or at least five year’s equivalent experience in a systems support analyst position responsible for managing server environments

·         Hands-on knowledge with media, digital and video design, including the use of MAC.

 

Knowledge & Experience

·         At least five years’ equivalent work experience in a systems support analyst position responsible for managing server environments.

·         Advanced knowledge of the following: Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows 2003, Linux, Exchange, Snow Leopard, SQL, IIS, Proxy, SendMail, and XML.

·         Strong understanding of programming languages, including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

·         Exceptional abilities at load balancing, clustering, and caching procedures and processes.

·         Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated network equipment.

·         Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools.

·         Familiarity with TCP/IP and network protocols, firewall and switch management, and operating system configuration.

·         Broad experience with structuring and developing multimedia applications, digital and video design, animation, and integrating them with corporate Web and Intranet sites.

·         Experience in gathering and analyzing business requirements.
