Position Description:
The Network Manager is responsible for building and maintaining the network services. Ensures the stability, security, and productivity of the corporate network infrastructure by providing senior-level technical expertise. Provides senior-level technical consultation to support staff, end-users, and for business initiatives. Acts as a project manager on network-related projects.

The Network Manager position requires a versatile technical individual with a background in designing, implementing and supporting networking systems. This individual is responsible for performing the following duties: management of LAN, WLAN, and WAN network environments, Voice over IP services, and security of local and wide area network in a multi-campus environment and system support/management. Individual must be able to evaluate, recommend and support policy and procedures for LAN, WLAN, WAN, routers, switches, firewall, VPN, and hardware systems, administrative system hardware environment and web hardware and connectivity. The position will be responsible for the implementations and the maintenance of networked systems, infrastructure, and other related sub-systems to provide efficient resource utilization and performance. In addition, this individual will be involved in procurement recommendations.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position reports to the Technical Director onsite.

Per project plans, service level agreements, and corporate standards - researches, proposes, designs, implements, maintains, monitors, reports on and consults regarding the following technical areas of focus:
WAN service and maintenance.
LAN service and maintenance.
Converged network services, e.g. VoIP, Video, etc.
Wireless networking service and maintenance.
Remote Access service and maintenance.
Routing and Vlan maintenance.
Firewall maintenance.
Networked application maintenance.
Network services security.
Networked systems monitoring, auditing and reporting.
Researches, assesses, recommends and implements enhancements to the corporate network and systems environments.
Manages vendor relationship and cost tracking for related products and services.
Maintains, administers and troubleshoots network operations on a day-to-day basis.
Supports the IT department in the design and implementation of network components, including support of development systems and assistance with testing.
Architects, maintains and consults regarding all network components, functions, naming conventions and IP service implementations (ip schemes, vlans, routing, dns, wins, dhcp, IPSec, telephony integration, etc.).
Provides and maintains comprehensive documentation of network systems. This is to include all LAN/WAN/MAN/Wireless infrastructure and disaster recovery planning.
Supports secured remote access interconnectivity for network resources to Users.
Responsible for the ongoing development and support of global technology standards and policies. Evaluates and deploys supplemental tools and functionality as needed.
Act as 3rd level support and networking technology resource to the IT Department.


Position Requirements:
Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or 3 – 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires three to five years of technical experience in networking technologies in a Cisco environment.

Excellent technical skills with a proven track record in network design and support efforts. Expertise in network design and implementation. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Should possess excellent time management, decision making and analytical skills.

Experience:
Varied and technical background that would include extensive, communications systems, data center operational support and desktop computing.
Experience with Windows Server based systems.
Experience with systems management & networking on multiple computing platforms.
Specific understanding of industry trends and standards required.
Very end user oriented with good verbal and written communications skills.
Must have strong work ethic.
Must be team orientated and have the ability to work with staff/faculty.

General Skills Must Include:
Good communications (written and oral) and documentation skills.
Ability to work closely with team members. Must be a team oriented person.
Strong Project Management skills.
Working knowledge or experience with PC based server platforms.
Strong knowledge of converged voice and networking technologies.
Strong knowledge of Cisco switching, routing, wireless, and QoS.
Experience designing, administering and maintaining networking.
Experience designing, administering, and maintaining LAN/WAN hardware and systems, i.e. switches, routers, firewalls, wireless networking systems, remote access systems, etc.
Strong analytical skills, ability to research and test solutions, strong planning and project coordination skills.
Strong knowledge of networked applications interoperability and IT industry standards, e.g. MPLS, VLANs, etc.
Experience with managing network service and related support providers.



Desired Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
Additional Skills Desired :
Strong skills in PC server applications and environment are a plus.
Experience with UNIX, Linux, and Windows Server is a plus.
Experience with open-source products such as Linux and Apache and monitoring tools in production environments is desirable.
Previous experience as a network engineer (3-5 years minimum).
Prior project leadership/responsibility on larger Server, LAN / WAN IT-related projects required.
Prior personnel management experience
Experience with CiscoWorks and wireless is desirable.
Demonstrated experience with Voice Over IP is a plus including.
Current industry certifications are desirable.
