Essential Job Functions
Supports, and operates internal data or voice communication systems including Local and Wide-Area Networks by planning, configuring, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and tuning network infrastructure such as routers, switches, gateways, and cable plant (copper & fiber).
Primary requirement is ability to support and troubleshoot LAN switch and cable infrastructure. Some experience with one or more of the following necessary: WAN (carrier circuits, routers, etc.), voice over IP (VoIP), wireless LAN (WiFi), firewalls, VPN (IPSec/SSL), DNS, DHCP, and common LAN systems such as file and print services, e-mail, etc.
Must be able to work with technical peers in other departments and interact directly with end-user customers. Must be able to follow detailed processes and procedures, and prepare clear and accurate technical documentation. Must be able to manage time and priorities in a complex environment. Some night and weekend work required, and must be able to participate in an on-call rotation. - Junior level engineer needed to support our Senior engineers
- Performs basic analysis of voice/data network needs and contributes to the architectural design, integration, and installation to ensure effective customer network architectures.
- Assists in evaluating, testing, and documenting current network technology baseline for both hardware and software to determine networking needs.
- Assists in the development of technical standards and interface applications, evaluation of new products to create and maintain optimal network solutions. Investigates and resolves matters of significance.
- Serves as technical resource across functional teams to ensure consistent knowledge of basic network architectures.
- Serves as a technical resource to assist the client in determining future voice/data network needs.
- Reports and monitors system utilization and associated costs to guide short term information technology investment decisions as related to voice/data network solutions.
Qualification
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or mathematics or related field preferred
- Two or more years of experience in voice or data networks
- Experience working with network systems and networking principles and practices
- Experience working with networking software and hardware
- Experience working with proprietary software and hardware
