For the Network Specialist position mentioned, this is an open ended contract position that could go perm. Requirements are below:

Overall description of job scope and responsibilities:

·         A Network Engineer is a technical, entry-level position who will be responsible for completing routine network tasks on the client's combined voice/video/data network infrastructure.

·         Some work will be performed during the off hours established maintenance window. 

Essential Job Functions. 

• Responsible for maintaining a high level of industry expertise in network hardware and networking architectures.  Integrate potential solutions into current data, voice, and video, switching and computing architectures.  Able to introduce and integrate new products and service into the client’s network. Knows who to contact for support and guidance when necessary. Also responsible for ongoing management of systems software. Manages technology and deployment projects.  Ensures projects and general work flow are completed on-time and within budget.

• Network Element Access.  The individual will; grant, remove and modify user access to network elements and applications throughout the client’s combined voice/video/data network infrastructure.  Perform network security audits in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.

• Understands and follows established processes, and completes assigned work in accordance with established quality measures to Implement, Optimize or Operate the client’s combined Voice/Video/Data network infrastructure.

• Makes use of quality improvement techniques, and participates in process improvement and management activities. Manages technology and deployment projects.  Needs to be able to matrix manage personnel from a number of different teams to achieve project objectives. Assists Network Services management in process re-engineering efforts. Ensures projects and general work flow are completed on-time and within budget. 

Secondary Job Functions:

·         Grow technical skills as they pertain to the client’s network infrastructure through a variety of mechanism including self-training, formal classes and coaching.

·         Utilizes vendor contact in accordance with the client’s contractual obligations. Understands and initiates appropriate level of vendor use.

Job Qualifications.
Required Qualifications:

Education:

• Associate degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science
• 4 + - 6 years work experience in Voice/Data/Video, TCOMM networking
  
  
  

Technical:

·         Is familiar with the following area and has expertise in multiple technologies: -

o        Broadband and narrowband access technologies including (but not limited to) POTS, xDSL, T1,  DS3, PRI, BRI, WiFi, WiMAX, PON, OCX.

o        Transport technologies including (but not limited to) SONET, ATM, Ethernet, POS, DWDM, WDM. - Voice Switching technologies including Legacy TDM and Softswitch technologies.

o         TCP/IP technologies including (but not limited to) routing and routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, etc.), subnetting, multicast, tunneling, bridging, MPLS, IP quality of service, traffic engineering, VoIP and IPTV. - Power Concepts associated with AC and DC power equipment and HVAC implementations in both cabinet and building applications.

o        Customer premises equipment including (but not limited to) Routers, PBX, Handsets, set-top boxes, home wiring concepts

 Additional Skills:

·         Able to coordinate a small group to work specific network issues.

·         The ability to manage changing priorities and to handle several network tasks concurrently with minimum assistance required to help set priorities.

·         The ability to organize priorities to achieve maximum performance cost effectively.  -

·         The ability to make timely decisions. 

 Scope of responsibility:

·         Able to work with diverse individuals/teams/customers. 

·         Able to interact and work with others as part of a team. 

·         Understands the role s/he plays on the team, and how his/her work supports the team's goals. Sometimes leads small groups and projects.

·         Requires software knowledge and skills in business and office applications, such as spreadsheets, database applications, word documents, network drawing tools, basic network applications (telnet, FTP Client, FTP Server) and basic Unix tools.

·         Basic mathematical and statistical analysis. 

Other:

·         Ability to travel as necessary if the needs of the business dictates.

·         If the needs of the business dictate, perform network tasks outside normally scheduled business hours to complete project work, provide on-call support and/or implement scheduled network changes. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, write and operate a computer keyboard, standard office equipment and telephone.  The employee regularly communicates with customers.  The employee is frequently required to move about and reach for items.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
