Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of:
* Voice and data networking
* Electronics, networks and data communications, network cable installation, termination and testing, to include twisted pair and fiber
* Principles and theories of electricity, data transmission
* Designated cable paths
* Fiber optic test equipment, such as power meter/ light source and OTDR.

Skilled in:
* Installation of network cabling and wiring
* Working as a team member on most tasks
* Establishing rapport with a variety of clients
* Prioritizing workloads

 Ability to:
* Read and understand technical literature
* Plan and design the layout and installation of telecommunications equipment  

Preferred Qualifications:

*Knowledge of network based devices, such as card access devices, video cameras, and IP telephones.
* Current Knowledge of ANSI/ EIA/ TIA- 568, 569, 607, 606 and Bicsi TDMM 11th edition.
* At least 5 years experience in voice and data telecommunications, preferably in higher education. 

* Ability to climb into and out of manholes or motor vehicles, ascend and descend step ladders, lift up to fifty pounds, and occasionally use ladders and equipment

Job Description:

Performs Journeyman level work in the installation, repair and maintenance of a large campus voice and data network.  

Duties:

*Installation and repair of campus voice and data network connections and user equipment.
*Installation, splicing and repair of copper and fiber optic outside plant facilities and infrastructure.
*Assists in design of outside plant infrastructure.
*Completes telecommunications projects according to standards based best practices.
*Collaboration with campus Facilities office for design, development, inspection and other aspects of capital construction projects.

Employment with Texas State University-San Marcos is contingent upon the outcome of a criminal history background check.

Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be a driver in good standing with less than ten (10) points deducted for driving infractions as determined by the Texas State University driving standards system. A driving record check will be performed on the selected applicant.
