About the Job

What you will do
Working within an assigned geographic territory, primarily from an active target pool as well as a strong self-generated lead pool, this position is responsible for selling profitable security system sales and services to new Johnson Controls customers. Incumbent will also be responsible for establishing effective business relationships on behalf of Johnson Controls with general and electrical contractors to expand customer base within assigned territory. Maximize customer satisfaction and retention by initiating post installation follow-ups.

How you will do it

  • Sell products and services to prospects within assigned territory, maintaining assigned sales quota and following established guidelines

  • Work to find new sales leads, through business directories, client referrals, etc.

  • Identify prospects utilizing creative lead generation and cold calling techniques

  • Perform security review to determine appropriate integrated systems

  • Create estimates, update and track sales activity within CRM system

  • Present sales presentation and proposal to prospects, identifying positive features and advantages of our products and services over those of the competition

  • Call on General and Electrical Contractors to develop business relationships

  • As assigned, work in an identified vertical market within a territory

  • Follow up with prospects

  • Adhere to current Johnson Controls policies, procedures, products, programs and services

  • Prepare final contract for signature

  • Process work order and complete all paperwork in accordance with approved and standardized procedures

  • Post-installation follow-up through contact with customer to ensure commitments were met and to generate referrals

What we look for


  • College degree preferred. High school degree or equivalent required

  • 3 years’ experience as a successful consultative commercial sales representative, demonstrated by the consistent ability to meet and exceed quota 


  • Experience acquiring new customers, selling to end users as well as through electrical or general contractors. 

  • Experience working in bid market preferred.

  • Entrepreneurial, results-oriented individual

  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents (terms and conditions, technical procedures, etc.)

  • Ability to interact effectively with multiple levels of Johnson Controls, partner and customer organizations

  • Aptitude for problem solving; ability to determine solutions for customers through consultative sales approach
