Newspaper Internship
About the Job
Purpose:
To learn specific or multiple areas of newspaper production by completing training assignments and rotation. Certain candidates will be selected to work on one or more of our upcoming newspapers to be launched in 2012 (located in CO, TX, MA, PA, NY, DC, WA, OR, FL or CA)
Departments:
Writing, Editing, Reporting, Photography, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Marketing, Advertising, Administration, Sales, Web Design, Programming, Distribution or Legal Filings departments available.
Publication:
Canyon News is located in the heart of Beverly Hills but covers the areas of Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Los Feliz, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, West Hollywood, Westwood and all the Hollywood Hills. Adjudicated since 2004 as the only newspaper of general circulation cover the hills of Los Angeles, Canyon News is uniquely based on the Declaration of Principles, abiding by a no bias rule. The newspaper staff does not allow politics or any special interest to interfere with the truth of the news. We also welcome interns for our sister newspaper (The San Francisco News) or one of seven upcoming publications across the country.
Existing Staff:
98% of the staff were hired from the internship program. We teach a unique business model as you will learn to work as a team yet independently. All individuals are treated as an equal member of the team regardless of your newness or lack of knowledge in the field. We have a diverse staff and welcome people from all areas. Some managers are fluent in ASL to communicate with our deaf and hard of hearing staff.
Intern Details:
Choose up to 3 departments which you wish to learn and intern. There are three types of internships available: 15 week, 26 week or 52 week. We offer home internships for those with interest in becoming part of our team, yet without the resources to travel to the Beverly Hills office. Interns who successfully complete the program will receive school credit, references, potential job opportunity and a stipend which is based on performance evaluation to help with tuition, books and school materials) awarded upon completion of the internship program. Staff positions are offered to all outstanding team players.
Skills/Qualifications:
Great attitude, High Energy Level, Self-Motivated, Self-Development, Team Player, Verbal Communication, Handles Rejection, Deals with Uncertainty, Handles Pressure, Self-Confidence, Business Knowledge. Must be available at least 8 hours per week. Graduates may participate in the internship program as a volunteer for the experience, resume-building and possible job opportunity.
