Non-Resident Indian Services Relationship Manager

This position serves as liaison between HSBC India and current and prospective customers for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Services business in the US, working closely with HBUS retail branches while ensuring compliance with operating guidelines of the representative office. Leverage the Group’s presence and raise awareness about NRI Services in HBUS retail branches. Educate branch personnel and other business entities on NRI by completing joint calls to customers and conducting regular visits to resolve customer and employee queries. Ensure cross-referral of customers as appropriate. Assist customers who wish to establish a banking relationship with HSBC India. Work with local branches to promote money transfer facilities made available by the Bank for the NRI segment. Have regular interaction with the NRI and South Asian communities to promote the business and improve the Bank’s visibility. Organize and participate in social and business activities arranged by Indian and South Asian organizations to support these efforts. Initiate business development opportunities through customer events, seminars, etc. Respond to customer inquiries and referrals and coordinate activities with HSBC India branches to support achievement of established business objectives.
Complete other responsibilities, as assigned. Complete additional research and business development-related projects assigned by management. The NRI desk in the US serves as a Representative Office for HSBC Asia Pacific and acts in a liaison capacity with HBAP and its existing and prospective customers, particularly on the NRI business of HBAP’s India branches. The NRI community in the US is estimated at 2.5 m and growing, with about 400 k of them on the US West Coast and 250 k in New York State. The HRI population in North America has a greater propensity to save by virtue of a higher disposable income. Major competitors in the business are Citibank, SBL, HDFC and ICICI Bank. The customer base is comprised primarily of doctors, software professionals and business professionals. Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand. Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of three years proven and progressive retail and/or commercial banking experience or equivalent
- Proven communications, interpersonal, influencing, organizational, analytical and planning skills
- Sound understanding of HSBC India’s products and services, supporting operations and pertinent regulations affecting their delivery
- Knowledge of NRI rules and regulations and the Hindi language preferred
- Knowledge of personal and commercial banking
- Proven ability to work effectively, independently and in teams
