Position Purpose:


 


Install Nortel hardware as required on customer sites and performs functional testing and troubleshooting, and supports successful job completion, while meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Must have knowledge and experience working with various Nortel product lines.


 


Primary Responsibilities of Position:


 


This is an experienced position requiring strong to excellent product knowledge on one or more Nortel products. Responsibilities include knowledge and experience with basic building and construction of product hardware, at the customer’s site. Position requires the ability to inventory the hardware and physically build the product, following hardware job specifications and drawings while working independently. Other relevant skills include the ability to perform power and ground verification in addition to performing primary hardware testing on in-service or out-of-service. Must have proven ability to lead and direct assignments to meet delivery commitment to customer.


 


Specific skills include but are not limited to the following:


  



  • Ability to travel and reliable transportation a MUST. 

  • Understand and use established safety practices.

  • Quality awareness and ability to implement quality control processes.

  • Performs inventory of all job-related material.

  • Reads and stays current on installation documents

  • Reads and interprets Engineering specs, prints and drawings

  • Demonstrates proper use of tools and test equipment. (Vortex, GUI)

  • Maintain on-site job records and administrative tracking.

  • Installation of the Nortel BTS C and D kits. C kits installations consist of replacing the SFRM with MFRM-2 and MFRM-3, installation of a DOM card and TCCM for EVDO upgrades. D kits consist of installation of the DOM card and TCCM in cabinets with MFRM-2 upgrades already completed.  Installation of Data cables, swing of RF cables for call testing, and powering up of the Nortel 1900, Compact CDMA BTS.  Testing, Commissioning, and Call testing of the Nortel 1900 Compact CDMA BTS.   

  • Performs all physical and mechanical installation activities such as experience in big power jobs with AC and DC power, power cuts, termination of power cable, and hot slides,  anchor and level cabinets, install ground cable, build initial and expansion cable rack systems, fiber duct, and cabinet lineups, wire wrapping, coax connectors, run, sew, and terminate all cabling and fiber as need be to specifications.

  • Performs power and grounding installation on equipment and small power plants, per the Installation Methods

  • Performs power verification and power-up equipment.

  • Performs complete hardware testing on both in-service and out-of-service equipment on multiple product lines.

  • Plan/manage logistics and execute physical installation on hardware on one or multiple sites.

  • Performs complete functional testing on both in-service and out-of-service equipment on multiple product lines.

  • Requirements may include Site Team Leader assignment.

  • When necessary, ability to use a Personal Computer and various software applications (Email, Excel, etc….)

  • Travel away from home for several weeks at a time may be required on demand to other states within the US.

  • Shift work required upon demand.

  • Physical lifting of a minimum of 25 pounds is required.

  • Maintains high level of professionalism relative to work assignments and communications. 

  • Dress should be appropriate for the assigned work environment, which will be determined by Nortel or its customer.

    Minimum Skills/Training:


     


    Requires high-level technical knowledge of current Nortel products, which should be obtained through Nortel approved training curriculum. Must be thoroughly knowledgeable on Safety, Business Code of Conduct, Quality Assurance and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) regulations and requirements. Meets “ Basic Installation” training requirements of Builder 3 position or equivalent through years of actual work experience. Must have the ability to read and understand technical drawings and documentation combined with knowledge of product installation and testing phases. Must be able to perform as an In-Charge on individual or multiple projects. Must be able to perform hardware testing and functional testing on individual or multiple product lines. Through work experience and skill knowledge should possess an understanding of the customer network and deliver required services with no supervision.
