Performs procedures in Nuclear Medicine. Assures procedure quality and safety of patients and personnel. This includes imaging, therapies, and all paperwork for the NRC, Joint Commission, State Department of Health and their combined committees.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Orders doses needed for the day's work.
Schedules and coordinates patients with multiple exams.
Performs daily calibrations on all equipment.
Prepares equipment for daily use according to procedures.
Maintains NRC checks on equipment and personnel, daily and weekly, radiation surveys, floods, bar phantoms, dose calibrator. Records and maintains records.
Prepares and positions patients for injection and filming as directed in the Nuclear Medicine Department Procedure Manual.
Monitors all images to assure quality standards are adhered to.
Maintains records of all doses and procedures.
Assists radiologist with therapy consultations and administration of therapies.
Performs all procedures and takes all necessary precautions required for admission and care of in-house therapy patients before, during and after their stay.
Maintains cleanliness of the work area and disposes of all radioactive waste in accordance with NRC, State Department of Health, Joint Commission and OSHA.
Coordinates patient exams with physicians, nurses and other departments.
Coordinates times with Cardiovascular Department and the Cardiologist for patients having Myocardial Stress Studies.
Instructs, supervises and evaluates Radiology Students rotting through the Nuclear Medicine Department.
Accepts responsibility for "on call" coverage of the department.
Utilizes sterile technique and universal precautions.
Communicates with other health team members via the telephone system.
Accesses patient information via the computer system.
Calls for service as needed on malfunctioning equipment.
Prepares for and participates on all committees pertaining to the Nuclear Medicine Department.
Keeps statistical logs and reports this information to the department Clinical Manager.
Performs and maintains records of bioassays on all Nuclear Medicine personnel for the NRC and Joint Commission.
Prepares and administers isotopes according to department policies, NRC regulations and protocols.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/TRAINING
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (with minimum requirements indicated as appropriate)
1 year in-training experience
Working knowledge of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine equipment and procedures for imaging, therapies and lab work
Working knowledge of computer operations
Knowledge of NRC requirements
Knowledge of department operations
Ability to maintain safety procedures for patients and self
Poise and good communication with patients
Self initiated and team oriented
