DESCRIPTION:
Duties: Based in Duplin County, the Nurse/Hospital Coordinator (HC) will work closely with area hospitals and medical professionals to provide a liaison between Duplin County and the Study Vanguard Center in the implementation of the National Children's Study protocol, including collecting and processing biological specimens from women, for research within a clinical context. The HC will be responsible for overseeing the day to day activities of data collection at the second and third trimester of pregnancy ultrasound visits along with data and biospecimen collection at a hospital birth visit of the study participants in the NCS. Guided by a study protocol for study implementation, the HC will work with hospital staff in the collection and processing of biological specimens and data collection. The HC must ensure that the data is collected skillfully and reported accurately, maintain high standards of integrity and quality, ensure that all interactions and procedures are consistent with protocol and good clinical practices, ensure accurate timing in the collection and processing of biological specimens with prompt shipment of these specimens to the NCS repository, and review and collect data from the maternal and newborn medical records. Specimen collection will often call for work outside the standard 8-5 schedule and travel to local hospitals that are in or around Duplin County. This position will require some supervisory responsibilities to oversee future field staff that may be hired. The HC will work closely with the Study Participants to assure a positive experience to promote continued participation in the study. The hospital coordinator should have a broad nursing background, plus additional obstetrical and/or pediatric nursing experience preferably in a hospital setting. Must have a strong interest in women's health and research, supervisory experience, computer literacy, good verbal and written communications skills, able to multi-task, flexible both in abilities and work schedule, and able to form productive working relationships with a variety of staff across multiple disciplines. Research experience preferred. THIS POSITION IS BASED IN DUPLIN COUNTY, NC.
Position/Work Schedule Requirements: M-F 800 – 500. Overtime, evening or weekend work occasionally. Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. Patient Care Involved.
Minimum Education and Experience: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of experience in the area of specialization.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Spanish speaking ability required Current license with the Board of Nursing in the state of North Carolina Up to date educational requirements completed as specified by the Board of Nursing OSHA certification current Human Research Ethics Training upon hire .
