Nurse Manager, Child/Adolescent (RN)

About the Job

The Nurse Manager is responsible for 24 hour management of the daily delivery of nursing services to patients on the assigned inpatient unit.

 

Responsibilities: 

-     Assesses daily staffing needs according to census and acuity and manages resources so as to provide care in a safe and in a cost-effective manner

-     Collaborates with staffing coordinator to ensure consistent patient coverage with qualified staff

-     Monitors census to ensure optimum resource utilization

-     Coordinates admissions to the unit in consultation with admissions staff

-     Ensures timely assessments and interventions as required by patient condition

-     Helps RNs to strategize regarding an individualized care plan for each patient

-     Organizes patient care activities in the unit

-     Monitors discharge planning in order to ensure appropriate utilization and to create smooth transitions between levels of care

-     Collaborates with utilization management to facilitate resolution of reimbursement issues

-     Acts as clinical resource for staff and performs direct clinical care as needed

-     Models teamwork in resolving and addressing issues within the department and between departments

-     Facilitates communication and transition of care issues between shifts

 

Requirements:

-     Licensed RN with the ability to gain Connecticut licensure

-     BSN or equivalent education background, MSN preferred

-     ANCC Certification in Mental Health Nursing

-     5 years nursing experience with at least 3 years psychiatric mental health nursing in an inpatient setting required

-     Additional experience in med/surg nursing preferred

-     Demonstrated leadership skills

-     Management experience preferred
