OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSE

Job Description:
Kohler Co., a world class manufacturer of exceptional engines, power generation systems, kitchen and bath products, distinguished furniture, and renowned for luxurious hospitality business is currently seeking an experienced Occupational Health Nurse for our Hattiesburg, MS, Engines facility.

Under the direction of the Mgr-Human Resources, this position supports the business unit to promote health, prevent disease, and help associates manage illness/injury in accordance with the Mississippi State Nurse Practice Act as individual situations occur. Occupational health nurses are advocates and health educators for Kohler Co. and its associates. Occupational health nurses provide onsite nursing care to associates with minor illnesses and/or injuries. Occupational health nurses provide emergency care, prepare accident reports, and arrange for further care if necessary. When providing direct patient care, they observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress. The Occupational health nurse will offer health/wellness counseling, and assess work environments to identify potential health or safety problems.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Complies within the scope and objectives of the nursing service and company policy applicable to this position. Be cognitive of any new developments in the field of occupational health and emergency care and implement these new techniques as required.

Administers professional nursing care to associates as individual situations occur in accordance with the Mississippi State Nurse Practice Act. Documents all activities.

Responds to in-plant emergencies, providing emergency assessment and care.

Provides patient education to associates on an individual basis regarding health promotion and maintenance.

Dispenses medications prescribed by medical orders and provide appropriate patient education.

Participates in the Employee Assistance Program under the direction of the Supervisor - Nursing and Administration.

Works in close association with the Medical Case - Rehabilitation Coordinator, Safety Coordinators, and Worker's Compensation to monitor work-related medical cases with intent to expedite timely return to work and reduce lost work time.

Be available and willing to participate in any or all programs deemed necessary to provide optimal health care, Workplace First Aid/CPR, First Responder, and Emergency Medical Technician classes.

Assists in performing physical evaluations/examinations of new associates following Department procedures.

Participates in Tuberculosis Skin Test screening and follow-up care within company procedure and in cooperation with local and state community health agencies.

Performs pre-employment and probable cause/suspected use of drug screenings.

Maintains inventory of medications and supplies.

Follows requirements of Drug Enforcement Agency in maintaining records of dispensation and/or disposal of out dated controlled substances.

Assistswith the Medical Department administrative support duties.

Acknowledges that these responsibilities may be changed or added to at any time within the scope of the occupational health nurse.

Understands that disclosure of confidential information, as well as improper or unauthorized usage of the on-line system, may lead to dismissal. Since confidentiality is of extreme importance, an associate is expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times.

The requirements for a qualified candidate are having an Unrestricted Mississippi Registered Nurse license, a Current CPR/AED certification, a valid Mississippi driver's license, and Three (3) to five (5) years clinical nursing experience. A BSN degree is also preferred.
