OUTPATIENT CLINICIAN

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a Program Team Lead and a Manager, the Clinician is responsible for providing professional therapeutic mental health services and consultation to local agencies and other professionals in the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*

·        Provides counseling and/or therapy according to a plan of care developed from assessment and diagnostic evaluation.

 

·        Evaluates and assesses the holistic needs of the individual client.

 

·        Develops a written plan of care in conjunction with the client, the client’s family where appropriate, and significant others in accordance with client/family needs and in compliance with agency procedures.  Adheres to Medicaid and Medicare regulations for plans of care, when appropriate.

 

·        Maintains client records according to agency policies and procedures.

 

·        Assures that the confidentiality and the rights of clients and significant others are protected as delineated in applicable standards, policies, and procedures, and supports the client’s right to make decisions related to his/her plan of care.

 

·        Assures that clients understand their rights regarding confidentiality.

 

·        Provides therapeutic treatments that are both clinically sound and cost effective.

 

·        Carries out therapeutic treatments and procedures according to established care plans; agency, unit, and program policies and procedures; professional standards; and within the scope of practice of the employee’s professional license.

 

·        Educates and instructs clients and significant others in prevention and rehabilitative measures appropriate for the client’s care and safety.

 

·        Assesses changes in the condition of the client and modifies the plan of care
as appropriate.

 

·        Refers clients to other professionals or services as appropriate to ensure
optimal service.

 

·        Participates in client case conferences.

·        Arranges medication call-ins with various prescribing psychiatrists or
nurse practitioners.

 

·        Discontinues services appropriately, referring for additional follow-up services from health care community, when warranted.

 

·        Arranges for client hospitalization, as necessary.

 

·        Interacts with other Tri-County Mental Health Services units for referrals,
as necessary.

 

·        Completes and submits accurate, neat, and legible records, logs, forms, and reports in a timely manner and according to policies and procedures.

 

·        Participates in scheduled meetings, including case reviews, supervisory sessions, and staff meetings.

 

·        Maintains and utilizes knowledge of community resources.

 

·        Provides public education and professional consultation services, when appropriate.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Represents the agency to the community in a professional manner by demonstrating a professional attitude, sound judgment, and continuity in interactions with others in the community.

 

·        Participates in training to maintain or enhance job skills.

 

·        Adheres to agency Exposure Control and Risk and Safety Management Programs.

 

·        Ensures confidentiality is maintained at all times and in accordance with agency standards.

 

·        Uses personal vehicle for agency related business.

 

·        May provide court testimony, as necessary.

 

·        Adheres to organizational standards of performance (see attached).

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:

Duties require knowledge of mental health field equivalent to completion of a Master’s in Social Work, Psychology/Counseling or Psychiatric Nursing degree and three to five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Must minimally be licensed at the LMSW or LCPC Clinical Conditional level or
RN,CS level.

 

Directly related clinical mental health experience required.

 

Must possess a valid State of Maine driver’s license.

 

Demonstrated ability to provide individual, group, conjoint, or family therapeutic interventions specific to the client population.

 

Ability to work under pressure.

 

Ability to relate effectively with community referral sources and caretakers.

 

Ability to maintain up-to-date documentation.

 

Familiarity with psychotropic medication usage and monitoring its use.

 

Ability to understand and appreciate the dynamics of working with persons with mental illness or with substance abuse problems, persons in crisis, and persons seeking to enhance personal growth and functioning toward more effective living.

 

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations; and to interact effectively with a diverse array of professionals and clients.

 

Ability to manage a large and varied caseload.

 

Ability to work on a multi disciplinary team.          

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Participates in the recruitment, selection, and/or orientation of new staff members in accordance with agency and unit/program policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Not subject to extremes in temperature, noise, odors, etc.

 

Required to travel in agency or personal vehicle.

 

May use computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
