Operations Manager- Food Processing Facility

POSITION SUMMARY:

Direct single-site Food Processing Operations through a team of functional managers and supervisors. Ensure increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction while improving the efficiency of manpower, materials and machines.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • It is an essential requirement of the job that the employee have the ability to function in a feedback-rich, team-based environment.
  • Employees must possess good interpersonal skills and be compatible with co-workers.

·         Manage policy deployment in the areas of  Food Manufacturing techniques, quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls and plant performance measures.

·         Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.

·         Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved working relationships.

·         Manage material requirements to increase inventory turns and reduce levels on hand.

·         Ensure compliance with Company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA, safety, and complete and on-time delivery at the lowest possible cost.

·         Determine operations headcount needs and ensures compliance with Company policies.

·         Identifies, communicates and drives implementation of capital investments and improvement projects.

·         Manage compliance with state and federal regulations. Must have familiarity with FSIS and FDA regulations.

·         Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:

·         Bachelor’s degree or related discipline combined with 5- 10 years experience working in the Food Industry. 

·         Certifications / Licenses: Better Process Control School, Thermal Processing School, Design of Experiments (preferred though not required)

  • Demonstrated successes in meeting and exceeding targeted goals – cost, quality, & safety.
  • Must have exceptional planning, organizational and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience required with knowledge of retort processing.
  • Managing production lines of retortable product would be a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects within budget and schedule requirements.
  • Must be flexible and be able to work well under pressure.
  • Must enjoy problem solving, teamwork, and have a strong "can-do" attitude

·         Technical skills in materials and inventory management, production scheduling, and preventive maintenance.

·         Leadership: A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.

·         Planning: Ability to think ahead and plan over a 3-6 month time span.

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

·         Excellent project and program management skills.

·         Quality orientation.

·         Computer proficient.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily supervision of a team of managers, supervisors and administrative personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Lifting, Bending, Stretching, etc.)

Ability to lift at least 15 lbs. infrequently.
