Operations Manager - Industrial (Construction)

About the Job

Our client is a heavy industrial general contractor.  The projects are typically in the Northeast and range from $500K to $30M.  They do equipment installation, power piping, process piping, and millwrighting.  The projects include power plants, process plants, Waste-to-Energy, air pollution controls, etc.


 


The primary function of the Operations Manager will be to provide overall management direction for existing projects and develop new business opportunities relative to a particular client, group of clients, geographical area, or type of project.

This individual should be capable of functioning the following duties and possess the following background:



  • Provide overall management direction of projects assigned.
  • Assist in Business Development.
  • Ensure all projects are being built in compliance to schedule and within budgets.
  • Represent company in client meetings.
  • Assist in labor negotiations.
  • Assist in strategy meetings.
  • Background in managing self-perform process piping projects.
  • Background in managing self-perform power piping projects.
  • Background in managing self-perform equipment installation projects.
  • Background in managing self-perform high purity projects.
  • Background in managing self-perform millwrighting projects.
  • Manage three or more projects simultaneously.
  • Project background on $500K to $30M size projects.
  • Must have dynamic loaded concrete slab experience.

 


 The Operations Manager's typical duties will include:



  • Plan, organize, and staff key positions for/through subordinate project managers.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policy.
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with client and A/E contacts to facilitate construction activities.
  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of onsite Construction Engineer to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Represent company in project meetings, assist in labor negotiations/strategy meetings, etc.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts (fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc.) to protect company's interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with client.
  • Supervise the work of project managers when assigned.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as needed.

 


Fifteen or more years of extensive experience/knowledge of self-perform construction, design, and finance needed.  Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.  Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities is vital; superior communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) essential.  Significant business skill required.
