General Description of the Job
Conducts analyses of hospital operational or clinical pathway problems; formulates mathematical or simulation models of problem for solution by computers or other methods. These problems are identified by client hospitals and presented for analysis through structured interaction during bi-weekly client services meetings. Provides analytical support that helps clients select plan of action that affords maximum probability of profit or effectiveness in relation to cost, risk (clinical), or patient satisfaction.

Job Functions
Apogee Operations Analysts perform the following functions:

Able to assume responsibility for the data processing and analysis of patient flow pathways. Has the ability to develop variables and analytic approach in collaboration with internal client services staff. Applies advanced statistical techniques, proficient in a variety of techniques that include Monte Carlo simulation, linear and nonlinear programming, queuing and other stochastic models, Markov processes, neural networks.

Conducts time series analysis of complex data and carries out pattern recognition studies.

Performs complex analysis on potential large data sets in support of client service staff and customer requests. Delivers data products report format to customer specifications and timelines.

Skilled in analytical data presentation, graphical and visualization approaches.

Experienced in computer based modeling and simulation approaches including system dynamics and discrete event methods. Able to update and expand existing proprietary models.

Performs validation and testing of models, modifies models based on results. Works with technical staff to translate models into computer based tools and client applications.

May design, conduct, and evaluate experimental operational models where insufficient data exists to formulate model.

Works in close association with internal client services, clinical, and operational staff; demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering the highest level of customer service.

Must be highly organized and work well under pressure. Must be able to work independently, as well as under supervision. Flexible in meeting demands of national client base.
Required Qualifications at this Level

Undergraduate degree in operations research or management science.

Five years’ experience in the health care industry, hospital operations a plus.

Advanced degree (MS or above) in ORMS or other quantitative discipline - Health Services Research, Epidemiology, Statistics, or Mathematics a definite plus.

Possesses advanced computer skills including MS Office, standard computer based applications viz. SYSTAT, SPSS, etc. to work productively and independently.

Excellent communication, time/project management, problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills required.
