Full time opening for a certified Ophthalmic Assistant, working with pediatric patients. Travel within the metro required with occassional Saturdays. Qualified applicants must have either a COA or CMA certification, preferably with 3+ years experience.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist physician with office visits, charting, applanation tonometry, visual acuities, patient histories, surgery scheduling, etc.
- Cleans and maintains instruments for physician.
- May assist physician with surgical procedures, including providing proper instrumentation, set up and clean up of instruments.
- Transcribes patients examination information onto the chart and completes charge ticket.
- Provides education information regarding treatments prescribed by physician.
- Ensures chart documentation supports level of coding for charges and insurance billing.
- Coordinates supplies and/or equipment required by physician.
- Schedules surgeries and testing procedures and obtains authorization, if required.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to act independently
- Ability to interact with physicians/patients/staff
- Knowledge of insurance protocols and polocies
- Knowlege of CPT coding and ICD-9
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Good organizational skills
