Summary Description: This engineering position is responsible for the mechanical design, analysis and simulation; develop concepts and solutions to customer requirements; for standard and custom IR opto-mechanical products used in military and commercial applications. A lead contributor on a multi-disciplinary team in the development and fabrication of optics at the component and subsystem level. This position reports to the President. In addition to individual contributor responsibilities, this position will hold departmental managerial responsibilities.
Location: Northern Massachusetts
Objectives: As the Opto-Mechanical Engineer/Manager at Company, you will design the mechanical IR components, assemblies and systems for standard products and customers requirements. Serve as the technical expert for assigned projects for precision opto-mechanical design, analysis and simulation
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Developing designs based on customer inputs and requests.
• Develop manufacturing cost models.
• Prepare product design verification test plans.
• Execute tests that verify designs meet requirements.
• Lead problem solving and troubleshooting assignments for manufacturing and customer problem resolution.
• Follow ISO procedures and methods so that we maintain ISO certification
• Work effectively with other members of the Company team
• As requested, complete special assignments for company’s president

Specific Requirements/Qualifications:
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering with strong core courses in the fundamentals.
• 7-10 years related experience in the mechanical design of high stability opto-mechanical packaging, including kinematic mounting and precision adjustment and alignment.
• Proficiency with CAD and FEA modeling and drafting standards required.
• Ability to apply basic principals of mechanical engineering to formulate new concepts and solutions in product development for IR cells and systems applications.
• Knowledge of machining processes and characterization required.
• Willingness and ability to perform “hands-on” technical work in a laboratory environment involving metrology, optical alignment, testing and data collection.
• Organized, with strong technical and computer skills. (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint)
• Ability to establish and meet product design cost goals and meet schedule commitments.
• Good oral and written communications skills and the ability to provide clear, concise technical presentations.
• Highly motivated and excellent team member.
• Must be willing and able to travel domestically and/or internationally as required to meet business or customer objectives. (Up to 25% travel is required)
