Position: Oracle / DB2 DBA
Client:  New York City Financial Information Services Agency (FISA) 
Location: Manhattan, NY
Duration: 18 months with possible renewals
Work Environment: Business Casual, 40 hour work week 
Employment:  Full Time Salaried, Independent Consultant (No 3rd party firms!)
 
Responsibilities:

  • Work with application development teams to install and migrate releases, data fixes, as well as scripting procedures and administration of databases
  • Performance tuning and trouble-shooting
  • Data warehouse, VLDB, database design and configuration

Mandatory Skills and Experience:

Oracle 11g on AIX:

  • Performance tuning and trouble-shooting, such as database tuning and SQL tuning
  • Ability to find and resolve the problems quickly
  • Knowledge of the logical and physical database
  • Data warehouse, VLDB, database design and configuration
  • Oracle SQL*plus
  • SQL*net
  • Dblinks
  • Data-Pump
  • Cold and hot backup using RMAN
  • Ability to work with application team to review SQL and PL/SQL
  • AIX UNIX Scripting (KSH), with the ability to automate repeatable processes such as data pulls and loads.  
  • Oracle Gateway
  • Oracle Streaming
  • OEM l0G Grid Control
  • EMC Symmetrix
  • BCV
  • Metalink and SRs
  • Strong communication skills


DB2 for Z/OS V9:

  • Knowledge of Z/OS (MVS) operating system access, i.e. TSO, ISPF, IOF, JCL, etc.
  • DB2 access and maintenance tools such as SPUFI, DSNTEP2, QMF
  • Use of DB2 performance monitoring ? BMC Main View
    Able to use EXPLAIN command to assess DB2 optimizer access paths
  • Knowledge of DB2 Utilities: IMAGE COPY, RECOVER, INDEX REBUILD, REORG, RUNSTATS, MODIFY, etc
  • Able to administer DB2 Access (privileges) in conjunction with authentication package ACF2 (Computer Associates)
  • Knowledge of DPROPR
  • Create and maintain registrations and subscriptions using Replication Center
  • Knowledge of DB2 programming techniques and methods: Packages, Plans, Dynamic SQL, CICS
  • CA scheduler
  • Code and debug DB2 Stored Procedures and functions
  • Use of Work Load manager address spaces

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Symantec I3
  • Ability to code and debug CLISTS and REXX

UDB for AIX:

  • Knowledge of UDB on open systems, placement for system objects (catalog, tools, dialog, etc), recovery object (copies, logs, etc), storage objects (tablespaces, indexes, buffer pools)
  • Code and debug scripts to run utilities; RUNSTATS, BACKUP, etc. (understanding of interacting with NETBACKUP, CA Scheduler desirable)
  • Experience in creating databases, creating and changing Database and Data Base Manager configurations and creation of aliases and nodes to enable connectivity between database clients and servers
  • Knowledge of BMC Patrol
