Nordstrom is one of the nation's leading fashion retailers. Our Information Technologies division works in partnership with other areas of the Company to develop and support the business systems used throughout Nordstrom.

Nordstrom's Database Administration department is seeking a versatile Contract Oracle DBA with extensive experience in Oracle administration as well as development support background. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Defines and oversees database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation
• Provides experienced technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a data base environment
• Advises applications development staff and users on data base solutions to business problems, data architectures, data base management system facilities and capabilities, and the operation and tuning of data bases
• Ensures economic and efficient availability of data within adequate safeguards
• Designs and implements databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods
• Develops and maintains expertise in use of automated tools for database design and implementation
• Develops, maintains and documents, shell scripts and batch processes. Serves as  a team player, and works to maintain a positive environment
• Assists with application upgrades, migrating objects from development to test and test to production representing changes as necessary in Change Management
• Participates in Disaster Recovery planning and testing
• Participation in OnCall rotation for off hours enterprise database support

QUALIFICATIONS:

• More than 5 year's experience in Oracle administration with large OLTP and data warehouse databases and applications
• Deep working knowledge/experience in Oracle tool sets for both DBA Administration and development.  Web/Java development a plus
• Proven effective and efficient debugging skills and methods
• Highly skilled in SQL and performance  tuning
• Effective and efficient Unix and scripting experience
• Experience with any of these software packages is  a plus (Retek, Oracle Apps, RMANPVCS, ControlM)
• Production support experience in a 7x24 environment
• Experience in multi-tiered applications
• Effective communication skills critical, both written and oral
• Experience with RMAN, including backup strategies, configuration, cloning and stored scripts
• Experience with Oracle Streams is a big plus
• Experience with working in an Onsite/Offshore Development Model is a big plus
• Energetic and self motivated team player with ability to work effectively and cooperatively with project and infrastructure teams
• Degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred
