GXS is seeking an Oracle Database Administrator for our Production Deployment Team. We are in search of a highly skilled, motivated, and energetic professional to join us in shaping the future of Open Systems in this business. The successful candidate will perform a database administrator role as a member of a global team responsible for the deployment of a diverse set of GXS software solutions on UNIX and Linux.
Responsibilities include:
Performing Oracle database installations and maintenance in the preproduction and production environments. Perform ongoing tuning and performance monitoring of assigned databases. Additional responsibilities include participation in disaster recovery exercises, and in data center infrastructure projects for the databases supported. Adherence to established best practices for database release packaging, deployment, monitoring, housekeeping, security, disaster recovery, and backup/recovery is essential. It is also essential that detailed documentation be maintained so that all members of the team are able to share on-call support responsibility on a rotating schedule. The successful candidate is expected to follow strict change management policies designed to ensure proper planning and risk mitigation.
- Current Oracle Certified Professional on 10G and 11G
- Backup and Restoration
- Well versed in the use of RMAN to perform such functions as backup and recovery of databases and datafiles, duplication/cloning of databases, and block level recovery
- Database Performance management – in-depth knowledge of Oracle Grid Control. Expert knowledge of Oracle performance tuning for 10G and 11G. Experience in diagnosing and resolving hung systems.
- SQL Scripting and fine-tuning the scripts – experience in helping development teams in reviewing the SQL code and DB design
-Understanding of High availability and Fail-over
- Hands on experience with RAC, and experience in developing fail-over scripts, implementation of tools like Legato is a plus
- Hands on experience in managing Oracle 10G, 11G DBs, Real Application Clusters in production and Oracle 10G to 11G migrations
- Well versed with RedHat Linux AS 4, Solaris, and Windows Server operating systems
- Knowledge on Shell scripting and basic System Administration
- Should be familiar with environments where Web Based Applications are developed on J2EE based platforms (eg. WebLogic) and JSP engines (TomCat) with Apache as Web Server
- Bachelors Degree (preferably Business/Information Systems)
- 9 + years relevant experience in large scale production database environments.
- Knowledge of project quality and performance metrics
