Oracle Database Administrator

BIOTRONIK, Inc. is currently seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Database Administrator to provide consistently high quality support and maintenance for Oracle databases and services at the US headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

 

The Database Administrator is responsible for providing day-to-day support and maintenance for key Oracle databases and services of our enterprise application platform.  In addition, the individual will work directly with other IT, Application Development, and business groups to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements from the database perspective. The successful candidate will provide strategic input on the development and maintenance of a database architecture and functionality to drive data quality and integrity.

 

The Database Administrator’s responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide day-to-day support and maintenance for Oracle databases and services.
  • Investigate potential problems and issues raised by business users. 
  • This involves participating in an on-call rotation and carrying a pager as needed.
  • Monitor database events and proactively optimize system performance.
  • Work with the team to automate reactive procedures, where possible, and to promote rapid response to known issues.
  • Work with other teams to promote changes to production and other environments.
  • Maintain database configurations in compliance with established best practices.
  • Oversee data fixes for business and application issues.
  • Conduct proper backup/recovery and disaster recovery procedures.

 

Qualifications for the position include:

  • 5+ years of Database Administration experience in an Oracle 9i, 10g RAC environment.
  • 5+ years of in-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and 4+ years of knowledge and usage of Linux.
  • 3+ years experience in a senior support role required.
  • 4+ years experience in administering a large/complex production Oracle environment.
  • 2+ years of working experience building data warehouses and data marts.
  • Strong experience supporting mission critical relational databases is necessary.
  • Experience and knowledge of Oracle 9i, 10g and “best practices” is required.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills are critical.
  • Must have excellent learning and research abilities.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Extraction-Transformation-Loading the data into staging databases for business users.
  • Skilled in scripting and automating repetitive administrative tasks.
  • Good understanding of RAC, physical and logical standby, TAF and other high availability Oracle technologies.
  • Skilled in PL/SQL and should be very competent in SQL tuning.
  • Experience in defining/analyzing ERDs, data models, and physical database designs.
