About the Job

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include working closely with the Project team as well as with the other Database Administrators and System Administrators to understand user requests and implement them within compliance with company standards. Primary responsibilities include providing DBA support for Oracle databases on Sun UNIX/Linux platforms, SQL Server, and MySQL by converting ERD models into a physical database schema (including tables, indexes, triggers, and stored procedures); optimizing and maintaining the database(s) and performance tuning.

 

Specific Responsibilities

·         Provide technical expertise in the area of database design, implementation and support;

·         Provide support in developing and integrating solutions into existing platforms or new systems;

·         Provide system support and consultation in areas of specialization;

·         Work closely with Database Architect to research, recommend and implement best practices within the area of database design

·         Develop and implement processes and procedures as needed to provide 7 by 24 support for the company’s databases.

 

 

Qualifications

A.     Knowledge

 

·         Computer Science or related field and 5 years experience as a production support Database Administrator in a 7 by 24 environment.

·         Must be Proficient in Oracle 10G, SQL Server 2005, and MySQL.

·         Must demonstrate good knowledge of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), and SQL Server Cluster.

·         A demonstrable command of Oracle’s internal mechanisms, SQL, PL/SQL, data modeling, UNIX shell scripting, and DBA tools use.

·         Ability to solve problems of high complexity.

·         Additional experience in the following areas would be a definite plus: Administrating Oracle application servers, Knowledge of Oracle Application Server Express, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

 

B.     Skills

Required:

·         Database administrators need excellent communication skill, technical knowledge, and problem solving skill.  The proficiency with communication cannot be over emphasized.  DBAs deal at all levels of the company with people at all levels of technical knowledge.  The candidate must speak and write clearly and listen and comprehend.  Lacking this skill alone is reason to deny a candidate.

 

·         Must be multi-task oriented with proven ability to manage several active projects simultaneously.
